Job Summary

Neighborhood House is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will report to the Director of Facilities. Flexibility is required as hours and times of work may vary during the week. Hours are often after classroom hours, in the afternoon. Weekend availability is required. Neighborhood House sites are located primarily in Seattle and South King County.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, move, rearrange, set up furniture (tables, chairs, desks, computers) and office spaces
  • Installation of pictures, bulletin boards, and name plates
  • Perform routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, and fixing minor water leaks.
  • Change light bulbs or fluorescent lamps and other basic facility maintenance.
  • Performing electrical or plumbing work.
  • Perform interior painting and drywall patching.
  • Inspect grounds and facilities for potential hazards or safety concerns.
  • Landscaping and grounds work, such as trimming tree branches, leaf blowing, applying mulch, and turning play chips.
  • Pressure washing and window cleaning.
  • Clearing drains of leaves and from roofs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in painting, furniture assembly, and setting up cubicles/wall systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one-year relevant experience. A combination of experience, industry certifications and/or education will be considered. Vocational training and certification will also be considered.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with Neighborhood House staff, volunteers, and customers in our facilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a safe manner and ability to work on a team to complete projects as needed.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of how to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks to the highest quality, which will include the ability to frequently climb ladders, climb roofs using a safety harness, work in confined spaces, and lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing/pulling for extended periods of time, etc. is required.
  • Have reliable, independent transportation for frequent travel between sites. 
  • Willingness to comply with established agency performance standards, which require productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation and the maintenance of a professional demeanor.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to legally drive a rental vehicle in the State of Washington.
  • Ability to drive to and from NH sites.

Required Credentials

  • Must pass Neighborhood House background check requirements.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.
  • Department of Early Learning portable background check.
  • Current Health Exam and Tuberculosis Screening (must be obtained prior to employment).

Post-Hire on-the-job Training Requirements

  • Current First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Current CPR Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
