Summary:Our Department of Dental Services is searching for a skilled, experienced, patient-focused Dentist with great communication and customer service skills to join our team. The successful candidate will provide clinical dental services and preventive dental care in a community health center setting at all Neighborhood Health Services Corporation locations. The Dentist will supervise the dental assistants and dental hygienists in the absence of the Chief of Dental Services.Essential Functions:
  • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnoses of dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out or directs others in carrying out appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Records patient/dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record to accurately and completely reflect the nature of thee contact, condition and care or treatment of patient; complete referrals, data collection instruments and other records as required
  • Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
  • Serves on other health center committees, in addition to being part of the dental staff.
  • Prepares reports as requested by Chief of Dental Services
  • Assists in continuing education, on-the-job training and orientation of community health center staff.
  • Designs, develops and implements appropriate Dental Department policies, protocols and procedures as directed by Department Chief and in compliance with most current accepted professional standards.
  • Assists in providing technical assistance and health education to the community.
  • Participates in short and long-term program planning for Dental Department and including goal setting and objectives.
  • Provides consultation to the Officers and Board of Directors regarding dental and oral health issues when needed.
  • Travels when necessary to fulfill the corporations needs; attends meetings necessary to represent the corporation and/or Dental Department.
  • Assists in coordinating and integrating the corporation's dental programs and services with other corporate programs and services for the welfare of patients.
  • Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care, as well as those relating to, but not limited to, workplace safety, personnel issues, public health and confidentiality.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention activities of the corporation as necessary.
  • Performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives as directed by the Department Chief/Dental Director.
Education and Training:
  • Graduate of an accredited dental school
  • Completion of an accredited general practice residency program preferred
  • Knowledge of public health principles and practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required
License and Credentials:
  • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of New Jersey
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification
  • New Jersey Controlled Dangerous (CDA) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registrations
Skills and Abilities:
  • Requires a comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern dentistry as related to public health organizations and community health programs.
Knowledge of current social and economic problems pertaining to public health and their impact on primary healthcare
