Leads all activities of the Medical Assistants while performing day to day Medical Assistant duties. Responsible for ensuring proper staffing levels are maintained at all times. The Lead Certified Medical Assistant will provide exceptional and compassionate customer service to patients and visitors in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) and demonstrates NHC's mission and values.They must be able and willing to handle tasks within the clinic according to established procedures and protocols, as to provide a seamless experience for the patient. The Lead Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality care to patients in accordance with individual needs, physician orders, and standards of care. Essential Job DutiesCoordinates daily administrative duties, including schedules, medical assistant assignments, and patient care.Mentors and trains new Medical Assistants and provides support and guidance to all staff members.Escalates concerns appropriately to Clinic Manager and MA Program Manager.Attends and can lead daily clinic huddles.Develops and communicates daily clinic schedule.Monitors Teams chats and responds appropriately.Supports colleagues with resources, guidance, and hands-on collaboration as necessary.Oversight of medical and lab supply ordering and expiration managementCollaborates with Lead Medical Assistants across all NHC sites.Partners with MA Program Manager and other leadership to create and deliver training for new and existing medical assistants who need further training or support.Serves as MA Subject matter expert (SME) for medical services or programs.Manages shift safety, adherence to policies, and compliance with regulations.Develops and/or delivers clinical updates to medical assistants as appropriate. Performs audits of workflows according to NHC standard work.Collaborates with Clinic Manager and MA Program Manager on the day-to-day operations and performance of Medical Assistants.Collaborates with Clinic Manager, MA Program Manager, and other clinic leads to create standard work, checklists, and job aides for Medical Assistants.Assigns tasks and patient assignments to Medical Assistants. Monitors Epic in-baskets and directs coverage for in-basket work.Monitors and reports on team-defined Key Performance Indicators to Clinic Manager and MA Program Manager.Attends organizational meetings as delegated by the Clinic Manager and MA Program Manager. A minimum of one year of Certified Medical Assistant experience is required, with demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required below.Experience in primary care or family medicine is preferred.Previous EPIC or EHR experience is preferred.Ability to fluently speak, read, and write in Spanish is highly preferred.License and/or Certification RequirementsCertification through a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification program is required: AAMA, NCCT/NCMA, AMCA, ARMA, RMA. Active BLS certification is required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & BehaviorsStrong communication skills.Has strong foundational clinic knowledge and skills on which to base judgments and make decisions.Maintains composure under stressful situations.Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving skills.Exemplifies leadership abilities and values.Ability to take and record vital signs and perform assigned CLIA waived lab tests.Basic knowledge of medical terminology.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Ability to communicate professionally both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS).Ability to multitask between front office and back-office duties.Ability to answer and utilize multi-line telephone.Ability to learn and adapt to changing information and/or policies and procedures.Must be able to display sensitivity to the population and patients served.Must be able to demonstrate a record of reliable attendance and punctuality.Working knowledge and proficiency of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and desktop publishing software.Ability to proficiently use EPIC Electronic Health Record.Ability to enter in data accurately with attention to detail.WORKING CONDITIONSWork EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, based on patient volume.As a result of high patient volume, this position experiences stressors that come along with a fast-paced environment. Must be able to travel during the workday and/or cover at other locations as needed.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic chemicals or blood borne pathogens and regularly handling contaminated sharp instruments.
