The mission of Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) is to open doors and advance lives from homelessness through homeownership by providing sustainable housing, supportive services, and education to the Larimer County community. We envision communities where everyone has opportunity and access to a stable home. Since 1970, N2N has provided housing stability services to residents of Larimer County. Annually, we secure stable housing for over 10,000 local households by preventing homelessness and displacement, providing budget education, youth programs, homeownership education, and by operating affordable apartments for families and individuals.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Housing Specialist provides housing counseling to low and moderate income renter and homeless households; processes applications, assesses and verifies eligibility, administers client assistance funds, and serves as a contact to community partners, including promoting awareness about N2N programs and services within the Northern Colorado community. If functioning in a bilingual role, the Housing Specialist will assist with translation and interpretation needs within the team and the wider organization. This position is eligible for $1.00 per hour bilingual differential pay for English/Spanish speakers.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Counseling

  • Maintains caseload of 25-30 clients/week and approves an average of 45 files per month
  • Assess eligibility for rent assistance, provide documentation, distribute and administer funds
  • Provide rental counseling, including budgeting, homelessness prevention assistance and landlord/tenant counseling to low and moderate income households
  • Assess client needs and barriers to stabilize housing and provide clients with appropriate information and referrals to community resources
  • Ensure that all clients have basic understanding of program specifics including eligibility standards and that signed documentation is implemented and kept in client file
  • Advocate with agencies, landlords and organizations working with clients
  • Document client interaction in various databases

Program Administration

  • Maintain required documentation for rent assistance funding sources
  • Keep records in Microsoft Excel, Salesforce, QuickBooks, and distribute checks for financial assistance programs
  • Maintains excellent organization; contacts clients within timely manner and demonstrates appropriate prioritization
  • Assist with reporting and grant compliance
  • Provide documentation of client stories for marketing purposes
  • Participate in Neighbor to Neighbor Team meetings
  • Serve as a community contact representing N2N with all entities related to the Renter Program and attend community networking meetings
  • Other duties as may be assigned by N2N management

WORK MODEL (IN OFFICE, HYBRID OR REMOTE): The position will be in the office two days a week with remote work available for the rest of the week.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • 2 years of related experience providing services to clients or equivalent education
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish preferred
  • Demonstrated counseling skills, primarily the ability to understand and empathize with others
  • Exceptional attention to detail in files, makes infrequent and insignificant errors
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of local resources or willingness to learn resources to make referrals
  • Experience working with low-income populations
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills
