Location: Hybrid Work Option. Employees work part of each week in NCTCOG’s offices in Arlington, Texas, and part of each week remotely from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Job Description: Who We Are and What We Do

The North Central Texas Council of Governments, or NCTCOG is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound development. NCTCOG’s purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities, eliminate unnecessary duplication, and make joint decisions. NCTCOG’s Environment & Development Department assists member governments in planning for common environmental issues and development challenges. The department has created and/or provides support for various environmental outreach and education programs in the region as well as various local and regional projects and studies. The Environment & Development Department is seeking an entry-level professional to join its team and assist with tasks for department projects and programs related to water quality, stormwater, energy conservation, regional sustainability initiatives, and other programs as needed. There will also potentially be times when the successful candidate is working on other department projects outside of these areas as assistance is needed. Tasks for the water quality management planning program include, but are not limited to, annually updating NCTCOG’s North Central Texas Water Quality Management Plan, coordinating webinars, workshops, and meetings, collaborating with committee members and stakeholders, and enhancing the department’s resources on climate resilience and environmental justice and equity. The successful candidate will also be working tasks covering a wide range of sustainability related topics including energy efficiency and conservation and more.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning workshops/webinars by coordinating with member governments and project stakeholders.
  • Planning, coordinating, and preparing materials for meetings.
  • Monitoring schedules of deliverables and budgets.
  • Communicating with grant manager and supervisor to ensure deadlines and expectations are met.
  • Coordinating with local government members, federal, state, and local partners.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Attending meetings and representing the agency and department within and beyond the region.
  • Conducting research and summarizing studies.
  • Proofreading documents.
  • Writing reports and compiling documents.
  • Preparing outreach materials, as needed.
  • Additional tasks as needed.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating Microsoft Office products
  • Familiarity with the impacts of climate change in Texas.
  • Familiarity with the topic of environmental justice and equity is a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental issues in urban areas of Texas.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to listen and interpret the messages and input of others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to work on tasks in various programs.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Experience using GIS software, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Online, is preferred.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and up to one-year related work experience.
