Job Description

The North Central Texas Emergency Communications District (NCT9-1-1) is searching for a 9-1-1 Geographic Information Specialist II to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a crucial part in providing GIS and technology support, enabling the efficient and effective response to emergencies and ultimately help save lives!  

Saving Lives and Making a Difference!NCT9-1-1 is responsible for 40 Emergency Communications Centers (ECCs) in 13 counties surrounding the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. NCT9-1-1 supports these ECCs through maintaining and upgrading 9-1-1 equipment, providing up-to-date mapping information, training the 9-1-1 telecommunicators, educating the public on the proper use of 9-1-1, and monitoring ECC functionality and compliances. NCT9-1-1 serves a population of 1.9 million and covers 10,800 square miles. 

Job Summary: NCT9-1-1 is dedicated to providing exceptional quality GIS and mapping data to our ECCs. Our team plays a vital role in utilizing geospatial data and technology to support 9-1-1 operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and functionality of our GIS systems, providing support to our GIS Data Providers, and staying current with the latest GIS technologies and methodologies.

Responsibilities: As the 9-1-1 GIS Specialist II, your key responsibilities would include:

  • Operating GIS Software: Utilizing GIS software such as ArcGIS or ArcPRO to collect, analyze, and maintain accurate geospatial datasets.
  • Data Validation: Validating and ensuring the quality control of GIS data using industry best practices to ensure the highest accuracy and reliability.
  • Visualization: Creating maps, graphs, and other visualizations to support 9-1-1 operations and planning, helping us make informed decisions quickly.
  • Training and Support: Providing GIS training and technical support to county addressing authorities as needed to ensure they can effectively utilize GIS tools.
  • Staying Current: Staying up-to-date on the latest GIS technologies and methodologies to ensure our team remains at the forefront of technological advancements.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with local GIS Data Provider to maintain an accurate and comprehensive GIS database.

Qualifications: A successful candidate will possess the following skills/qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, enabling you to navigate and utilize GIS tools proficiently.
  • Experience in GIS data management and analysis, demonstrating your ability to handle geospatial data effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey critical information to team members.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience applying GIS in emergency services, public safety, and/or 9-1-1 systems a plus.

Work Experience:

  • Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor’s degree.
  • Over one year up to and including three years.

Compensation:

  • Annual Salary Range: starting at $55,000.00 dependent on experience.
