The Associate Director for Living and Learning Programs is a member of University Housing’s Leadership team who provides strategic visioning for a robust, inclusive and experiential living and learning centered ethos grounded in the living and learning Community Best Practices Model by Karen Inkelas. The Associate Director harnesses a diversity of thoughts, ideas, strengths and resources to develop and promote a learning and student-centered living experience for Living and Learning Programs. This role facilitates the integration of a homogeneous curricular approach centered on residential education to assist with creating a seamless learning experience within University Housing. The Associate Director leads the effort in cultivating relationships with Colleges and Campus Units that foster innovative curricular and co-curricular learning experiences through faculty engagement and interdisciplinary collaborations. The Associate Director will supervise, train and evaluate the job performance of (6) full-time Village Directors leading the following Village Programs and liaise with the Residence Life staff leading the Black Male Initiative (BMI):Academic: EcoVillage, Engineering VillageThemed Communities: Impact Leadership Village, Global Village, Transfer Connections, Wellness VillageIdentity & Social Justice: BMI, Women of Welch, Native SpaceThe Associate Director serves as a departmental representative on assigned University and Division of Academic and Student Affairs committees as needed. The Associate Director for Living and Learning Programs reports to the Director for Residential Learning.Principal Functions and ResponsibilitiesLeadershipServes as a member of the University Housing’s leadership teamDirectly supervise, coach and mentor Living and Learning Village Directors and indirectly supervises Graduate Assistants, Graduate Interns and Village MentorsCultivate strong relationships to ensure living and learning villages foster an ethos of learning and transformation guided by diversity, equity and inclusion best practices to yield students with a sense of community and belonging.Cultivate and support ongoing staff cross-collaboration within residential communities in relation to community building, residential curriculum and living and learning village experiences in collaboration with Director for Residential Learning and Director for Residence Life.Nurture a deep and abiding alignment of Living and Learning Villages with partnering units' vision and strategic goals.In collaboration with the Associate Director for Residential Learning to develop experiential learning opportunities beyond living and learning villages that promote a seamless residential learning experience.Represent University Housing within the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and University through appointed opportunities, recruitment efforts, and volunteer activities.Practice ways of teaching and developing curriculum that is innovative and at the forefront of teaching and learning.Engage in professional development experiences to expand personal knowledge of best practices in Academic Initiatives as outlined in the Association of College and University Housing Officers - International Competencies.Examine and evaluate Living and Learning Villages to identify as well as justify resources that support and elevate the Living and Learning Program holistically.Recruitment, Selection and TrainingDevelop, lead and manage a centralized recruitment and hiring process for living and learning Village mentors in collaboration with Village Directors, the Coordinator for Residential Learning and the Associate Director for Residential Learning.Devise and govern an effective marketing and outreach plan to recruit a diverse Village Mentor team utilizing the department and DASA Marketing and Communications team.Compose and facilitate a holistic learning and student-centered training and development model that integrates opportunities for collaboration with Resident Advisor Training.Based on evolving community needs and to promote a seamless residential learning experience, identify and practice continuous developmental needs for undergraduate, graduate and professional staff in collaboration with the Associate Director for Residential Learning.Coordinate the recruitment, selection and hiring of Village Graduate Assistants and Interns in collaboration with the Associate Director for Residential Learning, College of Education’s Higher Education Program, The Graduate School’s Graduate Student Support Program (GSSP).Lead the recruitment, selection, hiring and onboarding of Village Directors with support from the Coordinator for Residential Learning and the Associate Director for Residential Learning.Coordinate the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and offboarding of Scholar-in-Residence and Guest Artist-In-Residence.Work with the University Housing Finance team and actively maintain partnerships with the Division of Academic and Student Affairs Finance Team to align hiring practices with division and university policies, practices and guidelines.Residential LearningUse relevant student development theory and evidence-based best practices to develop and institutionalize academic initiatives that support student needs and meet strategic goals.In collaboration with the Associate Director for Residential Learning, facilitate the seamless integration, scaffold and evaluation of the curricular approach to Living and Learning Programs.Develop, cultivate and steward relationships with academic and campus units to promote and expand Academic Initiative offerings that speak to department goals for residential education in alignment with division and university goals.Lead the effort to develop and promote Faculty Engagement opportunities such as Scholar-in-Residence, Guest Artist-In-Residence and Faculty Fellows within Living and Learning Programs.Oversee the development and ongoing effectiveness of living and learning Villages and other co-curricular initiatives.Identify, develop and manage resources to support the ongoing need for professional development and training of staff and campus partners affiliated with academic initiatives.Strategic PlanningAssist in leading a taskforce of strategic partners and University Housing staff to evaluate ideas to sunrise and/or sunset living and learning Villages.Assist in developing and executing a strategic plan to create and/or enhance Academic Initiatives.Participate in the evaluation of living and learning villages through intentional assessment and periodic program reviews that align with standards outlined by the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I), the Council for the Advance of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), Association of American College & Universities (AACU) and other Higher Education Organizations.Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Research, Assessment and Evaluation to develop and manage assessment projects that align with department assessment goals and the departmental assessment plan.Examine, recommend and execute the strategic placement of Academic Initiatives within residential communities that align with University Housing’s Master Plan, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and University Strategic Plan.Operation and AdministrationLead the review, development and implementation of policies and practices that promote operational efficiency and effectiveness of Academic Initiatives.Collaborate with University Housing Administration and Occupancy Management to streamline the Village Application and Assignment processes, manage Village Mentor assignments, and Village occupancy.Assist with the management of departmental administrative calendars representing Academic Initiatives.Assist in the management and oversight of budgets allocated to Academic Initiatives including budget proposals, monthly reconciliation and end of year reporting.Execute and hold accountable partners identified in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).Coordinate and attend university recruitment events sponsored by Admissions/University Housing/Colleges/Campus Units to effectively promote and recruit for living and learning Villages.Collaborate with University and Division Marketing and Communications teams as needed to coordinate and assess efforts to promote Academic Initiatives through web, social media and use of other innovative platforms.Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Assessment, Research, and Evaluation on annual end of year reporting for living and learning villages providing an executive summary of highlights, assessment and future plans making recommendations for program changes as needed.Maintain and provide accurate administrative and governance records and update as needed.POSITION OPPORTUNITIESAdditional opportunities will be available based on co-construction between candidate’s interests and the Director, Residential Learning (eg. teaching, research, publication, grant writing, conference planning, conference presentation development).OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned as needed at the discretion of the Director, Residential Learning.This position requires some night and weekend work in order to support the campus community. This position is expected to serve in a Director-level on-call system for the department and may have to respond to campus to provide leadership and support during emergency situations after hours.This position is required to handle confidential information appropriately and is bound by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This position is also a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act as well as Responsible Employees under Title IX and are mandatory reporters for any crimes of incidents of sex discrimination which they are made aware. In addition to reporting, training is required for these designations.
