The Challenge
We are hiring 2 experienced transportation workers to join our Wake County Maintenance team.
In this role you will:
Perform maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside feature.
Install traffic & erosion control devices.
Clear right of ways.
Perform roadway grading and machining of unpaved roads.
Lead pavement repair, pipe installation, and other drainage tasks.
Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks.
Provide emergency response including traffic accident clean-up, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies.
What You Bring
Knowledge of Basic Work Zone and Traffic Control.
Experience in 1 of the following areas: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
Experience in the operation of 1 piece of the following equipment: asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, or tractor “A” boom mower.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to act upon verbal and written communications.
Ability to perform manual labor for extended time, and operate equipment that vibrates.
Able to work well in extreme hot and/or cold weather.
Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep/uneven terrain.
Strength to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
A Commercial Driver's License (Note: If you don't have this, STILL APPLY! You can get it after you are hired through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
Safety toe shoes.
Notes
We may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 3 years for drug/alcohol abuse.
Education & Experience
High school/GED diploma, and
3 years of relevant experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
