The Challenge
We are hiring a Senior Assistant Resident Engineer to join our Asheville Resident Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
Manage minor and major construction projects.
Supervise staff and prepare/evaluate their performance.
Prepare monthly and final estimates.
Conduct written and verbal communication with contractors, inspection staff, utility companies, and the public to ensure compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications.
Evaluate data collected by field staff.
Prepare technical letters and reports.
Review contract plans, specifications, and materials testing results.
Work with minimal supervision from our Resident Engineer.
What You Bring
Excellence at plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and use of survey instruments needed to supervise the stake-out of line grades for roadways and structures.
Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are done in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies.
Customer service experience resolving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
Demonstrated ability to understand, explain, and administer highway contract construction projects.
Experience performing engineering analysis on complex contract administration issues, and the timely approval/denial of these issues through supplemental agreements and claims.
Experience in training, planning, coordinating, and supervising staff work.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
You promote a safe working environment.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
Computer skills including the ability to use contract administration software.
Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts, interpret plans, provisions and specifications, train other employees, and plan, coordinate and supervise their work.
Solid communications skills, verbally and in writing, to establish, and maintain working relationships with co-workers, management, contractors and the public.
Safety toe footwear.
Notes
At times, you will be working in extreme temperatures and on uneven terrain for extended periods of time.
We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
3 years of relevant experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
