The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Southern Ave Engineering team as a lead project inspector serving both Cumberland and Harnett counties.
In this role, you will:
Be a lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections of structure and roadway items for project construction.
Review safety- and environmental-related items.
Supervise junior inspectors performing routine and moderately complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards, and specifications.
What You Bring
Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
Knowledge and understanding of contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
Working knowledge and skills using computers, software, and math functions.
Experience performing inspections, sampling, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgement to plan interpretations.
Communications skills to establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
Agility to traverse rough terrain in evaluation of highway construction.
You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
Attention to detail to accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
Ability to safely drive a State vehicle.
Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
2 years relevant technician-level experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
