The Challenge
We are hiring an Assistant District Engineer to join our Jacksonville District team serving Onslow and Pender counties.
In this role, you will:
Review and approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions.
Supervise Engineering Technicians, including distributing workloads, tracking of permits as they move through the review and approval process, and conducting performance evaluations.
Perform onsite inspections for NCDOT specifications compliance for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
Perform field inspections.
Prepare deficiency letters related to road additions.
What You Bring
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
Experience interpreting and communicating, verbally and in writing, details of plans, project documents, policies, and procedures.
Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
Ability to read and interpret constructions plans.
Good communications skills to effectively communicate with engineers, developers, the public, public officials, and other staff.
Ability to review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to applicants with a deficiencies.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Writing skills to craft memos and reports clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
Note
We may require registration as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
