Position Overview
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Student Engagement and Leadership is a central hub of activity within the University and Division of Student Affairs. It serves to equip students with critical tools related to leadership development. The department encompasses several opportunities for student engagement including Student Leadership, Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, the Royal Court, and Greek Life.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Student Organization & Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator oversees each fraternity and sorority at North Carolina Central University by providing general advising and serving as a resource person for member organizations and student leaders in areas such as chapter/organization management, scholarship, community service, programming, organization and member accountability, new member development, and similar topics.
Implement student development practices as well as use measurement tools to determine student progress. Develop programs to educate the fraternity & sorority community and RSOs on topics including risk management, new member development, team building, academic standards, the intake process, and conduct; collaborate with, provide support for, and serve as a resource person for organization advisors
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Student Organization & Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator must possess a strong knowledge of fraternity and sorority cultures and practices; develop programs to educate the fraternity & sorority community and register student organization on topics including risk management, new member development, team building, academic standards, the intake process, and conduct; collaborate with, provide support for, and serve as a resource person for chapter advisors; design, educate, and enforces policies related to the development of register student organization and fraternity and sorority organizations. Skills necessary include providing oversight and management of chapters/organizations; identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase student engagement in campus life; critical thinking and conflict management skills; multi-task and prioritizing assignments; negotiating contracts and practicing good fiscal responsibility when managing a budget ranging anywhere from 10,000-100,000 depending on the fiscal year and revenue generated. Strong leadership and motivational abilities in a team environment are required with a commitment to student development and leadership excellence. Flexibility and the willingness to work nights and weekends are a must. The Student Organization and Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator must be able to implement student development practices as well as use measurement tools to determine student progress.
Minimum Education/Experience
Master's degree (Preferred) in college student personnel, higher education and student affairs, counseling, or related field.
* Two (2) or more years of combined experience in higher education, student affairs, advising, mentoring or student support services
* Experience working with program evaluation tools and learning outcomes assessment.
* Strong knowledge of fraternity and sorority cultures and practices
* Project-management and organizational skills to effectively work on several simultaneous projects.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Event management and logistics execution

Serving as the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) advisor and providing advising and oversight to non-NPHC fraternal organizations, managing the membership intake process, enforcing all university, state and federal polices, providing direction for the planning, promotion, and assessment of program and activities that serve the educational, social, cultural, and recreational interests of the university as it relates to Greek Life, overseeing the activities and aesthetics of the "Greek Bowl", and planning the Homecoming step show.

Function Administrative

Administrative coordination of Membership Intake and register student organization (RSO) registration:
- Course development and implementation of the Membership Intake Orientation for the student body
- Planning and implementation of the New Members Presentations and register student organization leadership institute and RSO fair

Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

The Student Organization & Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator, using student development theory, engages and trains students involved in Greek Life and register student organizations through various workshops, on and off-campus retreats and leadership development opportunities.

Provides major event support, serves as a liaison between the department of Student Engagement and Leadership and other university departments, chaperones students at off-campus events and performs other duties as assigned.
