NBEO is Hiring a Clinical Examinations Operations and Standardized Patient Assistant Near Charlotte, NC

The National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) is seeking a Clinical Examinations

Operations and Standardized Patient Assistant to assist the organization.

Founded in 1951, the National Board of Examiners in Optometry is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization whose examinations are universally accepted for

optometric licensure in the United States and internationally. NBEO’s mission is to protect the

public by developing, administering, scoring, and reporting results of valid examinations that

assess competence in optometry. NBEO has a full-time staff of 22 and utilizes over 100

optometrists as subject matter experts nationwide in support of its examination programs.

NBEO is one of the few national boards in any profession with a repertoire of exams that

include computer-based tests, an advanced competence exam, and clinical skills test using

standardized patients at the National Center of Clinical Testing in Optometry (NCCTO). We

This role is a full-time, onsite position based in Charlotte, NC.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Clinical Examinations Operations, the Clinical

Examinations Operations and Standardized Patient Specialist is responsible for Standardized

Patient (SP) training, ensuring smooth examination flow, and a consistent candidate

experience in the NCCTO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with and continually provides SP Training—including daily ongoing feedback
  • Serve as SPIRE Coordinator
  • Ensure that any ADA accommodations approved for candidates are appropriately

applied by working collaboratively with the Accommodations and Compliance

Specialist

  • Maintain a smooth examination flow
  • Ensure a consistent, standardized candidate experience
  • Work with the NCCTO team to proactively identify equipment needs and take

appropriate action

  • Ensure all exam materials and other sensitive information are secure
  • Assist with same day candidate issues (i.e. Retakes OSLE and ISE)
  • Assist with candidate eligibility verification (daily)
  • Serve as a back-up to AV Control
  • Serve as a back-up to SP Scheduling
  • Assist with SP Recruiting, On-boarding, and Off-Boarding as needed
  • Serve as a back-up Standardized Patient as requested
  • Fill in as needed with front desk responsibilities
  • Lead SP appreciation events once approved
  • Assist with supply orders and cleaning equipment as needed
  • Assist the Executive Director and other Clinical Examinations Directors in additional tasks as needed

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six

months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of

education and experience.

Additional General Skills Required: Able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to handle

complex tasks, strong organizational skills, ability to balance multiple competing

priorities and maintain a high degree of responsiveness. Some travel may be required

for this position.
