We are an engineering technology firm in Golden seeking a talented, technically strong, and “unique” career-oriented individual with a “can-do” attitude.
This position is responsible for editing, reviewing, and analyzing the accuracy and completeness of crash data imported from the Department of Revenue (DOR) and populated into the CDOT crash database (BESDT). The position reviews and analyzes the information contained in crash reports (e.g., accident type, crash location, weather, road condition, etc.) to determine appropriate codes and enter them into the CDOT crash database. The position uses the Colorado Roadway Information Systems (CORIS) reference book and “MapView/OTIS" Maps Program, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Coding Guidance documents, and other sources as necessary to perform the coding tasks.
The position is responsible for assisting in projects such as the following: geocoding of data; using GIS tools for mapping and analysis; using Tableau for reporting; visual display and visual analysis of data; use of the Vision Zero Suite software package; providing data queries; and development of data presentation materials such as maps, tables, graphs, charts, etc.
Job Duties:
Crash coding – 85%
Review of crash and supporting data using various programs, data sources, and documents to code, update, normalize, and cleanse crash data in the CDOT crash database. This position’s main duties will be to code 200 records per day, with an accuracy rate of 90% or higher.
Crash data analysis – 5%
Assist with crash data queries, data analysis and report writing to support the data requests from various customers including CORA, traffic engineers, CDOT management and staff, public relations, consultants, researchers, and other internal/external customers. Analyses may include trend analysis, statistical analysis, map generation and advanced reporting/graphing techniques to present the crash data to a wide variety of users. Other duties may include running data queries, development of data presentation materials, and data visualization.
Crash data system improvement – 10%
Assist with developing and testing new crash coding system (BESDT) and reporting systems (Tableau); Assist in identifying ways to improve the data system processes for automation.
Education and Experience:
Associate degree from an accredited institution in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Science, Data Management, Computer Science, or Statistics. Comparable degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
One year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
Prior experience includes a minimum of one year working with databases, Google maps, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Candidates will have demonstrated the ability for analytical thinking, fast learning, and being flexible and adaptable to changing work environments
Substitutions:
Licensure or certification and 2 years of working experience in the specified areas of study may be considered on a case-by-case basis as a replacement for the education requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have experience in data coding, ESRI Arc GIS, Tableau, or other data reporting and analysis tools.
The preferred candidate will have experience with geocoding, spatial analysis, and data visualization.
The Preferred candidates will have experience in web programming, SQL server database queries.
Hourly Wage Range:
$21.63 - $27.81 per hour dependent upon experience
Start Date: Must be able to start within 2 weeks of job offer
