Navistar, Inc. is Hiring a Product Development Project Engineer – Exteriors Near Lisle, IL

Position Overview

Based in metro Chicago, Navistar International Corporation is a leading global manufacturer of trucks and buses. We are looking for a bright, talented, and motivated Product Development Project Engineer – Exteriors to join our Body Exterior team.

The Product Development Project Engineer – Exteriors requires advanced subject area knowledge and decision-making skills, and the individual will normally work independently. They will serve as a central resource for the delivery of Exterior vehicle components and systems via Requirements Definition, Design Validation Planning, Design & Release, BOM management, Engineering Change Management, and Issue Resolution. The individual will provide support during system and vehicle validation as well as travel to test facilities and build events at manufacturing facilities. They will work with Supplier Quality and Purchasing as the project moves through program gates from concept to production. Involvement may last throughout all stages of a product’s lifecycle including modifications, upgrades and maintenance of the product or product line.

Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include concept, design, and release of exterior parts for new products
  • Engineering support for current production concerns
  • CAD model and print generation in NX/Teamcenter environment
  • Creation of DFMEAs and DVPs with guidance
  • Coordination with suppliers on technical details of new designs and timing of parts to ensure on-time delivery for relevant build activities
  • Issue resolution through validation and launch phases of new product programs
  • Support supplier requested design changes to help resolve quality concerns with guidance from experienced engineering team members
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
  • At least 5 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
  • At least 3 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science 
Additional Requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
  • Experience in truck and/or automotive design and development; experience working cross-functionally with design studio on A-surface/styled parts is a plus
  • Experience designing or working with plastic parts that are injection molded, thermoformed, reaction injection molded, and/or compression molded
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment; to interface with suppliers and cross-functional teams to achieve timely execution of assigned projects
  • Familiarity with design quality tools including:
  • Failure Modes Effects Analysis & DVP
  • DFM/A
  • Basic Dimensional Management (GD&T, etc.)
  • DRD and SOW Writing
  • Familiarity with problem solving and root cause analysis methodologies
  • Experience using Unigraphics UG-NX2 or any CAD related modeling software is a plus
  • Experience using Teamcenter or other PLM software is a plus
