Job Summary:

As a press helper, your job duties include inserting a spindle through a roll of plastic, positioning the spindle and clamping it in place, and threading material through rolls and tapes. During the process, you must monitor each step to ensure each part is inserted accurately and that the plastic runs through the machine smoothly. Press helpers may also be responsible for inspecting equipment to check if they are running properly, making necessary adjustments or repairs, and resolving any issues that arise during the press operations.

The Digital Press Helper assists Press Operators with materials, make-readies, cleaning, and daily maintenance. They are responsible for ensuring all materials are ready prior to set up. Our goal is to have the Helper absorb and put information and training from operators and supervisors to use in order to advance to a Press Operator position over time.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follows and supports all department procedures and company policies
  • Understands and supports the Company Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Business Attributes
  • Establishes goals to improve personal and department performance
  • Plays a role in the execution of company goals that when achieved will accumulate into the fulfillment of the Company's Vision
  • Employs all quality control checklists and adheres to all established quality procedures
  • Monitors press output for proper color, copy, and data
  • Make sure proper stock is being run for jobs
  • Marks rolls with proper documentation
  • Keeps shop clean and organized with a focus on increasing productivity and keeping the machines running.
  • Drives fork-lift and clamp trucks
  • Ensures paper is pulled and ready before operator starts make-ready
  • Keeps presses loaded with paper
  • Ensures each press is stocked with supplies
  • Helps operators during the make-ready, cleaning, and daily/weekly maintenance
  • Keeps work areas clean and organized
  • Weighs skids and waste baskets
  • Observes and learns press operations from operators
  • Attends all classes that pertain to press operations
  • Assists with the maintenance of equipment
  • Inputs accurate information into the data capture system
  • Works over time and in other departments when necessary
  • Knows and follows all safety procedures
  • Reports work-related injuries to supervisor
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner
  • Is proactive and promotes proper safety habits to fellow craftspeople
  • Ensures press and surrounding areas are OSHA compliant
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand
  • Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration
