Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting for a Senior Industrial Hygienist in Richland, WA.

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA, and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Conducts health programs to recognize, eliminate, evaluate, and control occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community. Coordinates the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; measures the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups. Prepares rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the healthful conduct of all work practices and the prevention of hazardous or nuisance exposure to the surrounding community. Assists supervision in educating employees on practices, precautions, and procedures established. Reviews present and proposed standards, and surveys new installations. Audits programs and conditions at all facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation.

Responsibilities:

Grade 20:

  • Under administrative direction, incorporates conventional and advanced IH practices for the assigned facility or programmatic area.
  • Applies IH activities such as integrating or complying with complicated technical requirements or application of new or special materials or processes. Provides IH consultation for challenging coordination or oversight requirements requiring problem solving and programmatic planning where only general objectives are given.
  • Provides comprehensive IH support to the facilities such as monitoring programs, procedures, and work package reviews.
  • Assists management in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs advanced predictive assessments of work exposures. Designs and conducts comprehensive exposure monitoring strategies.
  • Provides briefings on hazardous chemicals and performs on-the-job and job performance measurement (OJT/JPM) training.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for specific IH disciplines as required by 10 CFR 851, OSHA, ACGIH, EPA and state programs.
  • Communicates results and objectives both verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues and management.
  • Enhances expertise through participation in technical societies. Keeps abreast of industry best practices and changes to the profession. Produces documents, reports, papers, articles, or presentations as necessary.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality concepts by active participation and successful implementation of department initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Grade 21:

  • Under consultative direction, incorporates conventional and advanced IH practices for the assigned facility or programmatic area. Applies IH activities such as integrating or complying with complicated technical requirements or application of new or special materials or processes. Provides IH consultation for challenging coordination or oversight requirements requiring problem solving and programmatic planning where only general objectives are given.
  • Provides oversight and advanced and wide ranging technical, operational and regulatory guidance and comprehensive IH support to the facilities such as monitoring programs, procedures, and work package reviews.
  • Assists upper management in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs advanced predictive assessments of work exposures. Designs and conducts comprehensive exposure monitoring strategies.
  • Provides briefings on hazardous chemicals and performs on-the-job and job performance measurement (OJT/JPM) training.
  • Serves as highly experienced subject matter expert for specific IH disciplines as required by 10 CFR 851, OSHA, ACGIH, EPA and state programs.
  • Functions as lead or Subject Matter Expert within IH related task teams, technical committees, and project design teams. Demonstrates site/complex-wide knowledge and experiences. Represents Company in technical exchanges with other DOE sites and commercial industries.
  • Communicates results and objectives both verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues and executive management.
  • Enhances expertise through participation in technical societies. Keeps abreast of industry best practices and changes to the profession.
  • Mentors less experienced professionals within the discipline through developing and coordinating work activities.
  • Produces documents, reports, papers, articles or presentations as necessary.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality concepts by active participation and successful implementation of department initiatives.
  • Display technical expertise through leadership positions in technical societies, Site and national consensus standards committees, and technical exchange with other DOE Sites and commercial industry.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Grade 20: Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health, Occupational Health or related physical or biological science and 10 years related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Grade 21: Bachelor's (BA/BS) degree in Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health, Occupational Health or related physical or biological science and 15 years related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • 5 years of experience writing Industrial Hygiene Exposure Assessments and implementation of controls through Work Packages, Work Permits or Procedures.
  • 5 years of experience supporting construction work at Hanford or at other DOE sites.
  • Experience providing sampling direction to technicians.
  • Experience with asbestos removal activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience in related field.
  • Understands and applies advanced technical knowledge base of IH regulations, standard concepts, practices, principles, and techniques; has working knowledge of pertinent IH practices and applications.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Grade 20: $126,025 - $158,875

Grade 21: $138,700 - $174,900

The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate's education, training, and/or relevant experience.

In accordance with the Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc (Navarro) salary determination process, Navarro takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. A candidate's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
