Navajo County is Hiring a Public Works Safety and Training Officer Near Holbrook, AZ
Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty in the coordination and execution of safety and training plans for all Public Works departmental safety and training activities; administers and directs Department’s training and development programs by performing a broad range of professional and lead training work, requisite in overseeing and coordinating training programs designed to significantly impact the department. Develops, coordinates and implements a comprehensive training plan for the Public Works Department
Participates in the development and implementation of new policies related to safety and training; reviews and recommends changes to existing safety departmental policies
Responsible for the set-up of training locations and schedules instructors
Creates and maintains departmental training tracking program
Orders and maintains all equipment and materials necessary for trainings
Facilitates and instructs training workshops, as needed
Creates and executes a multi-media communications plan focused on internal training and communication for team members
Serves as train the trainer role for subject matter experts needing coaching in their role as trainer; Provides guidance and direction for trainers during implementation of Division training plans
Coordinates with Public Works Division Managers to ensure each division training plan adequately addresses safety and training needs for staff members, as well as assessing training priorities for the entire Public Works team
Serves on an emergency communications team and on-call, as needed
May provide guidance and support in curriculum development and research, support in facilitation, or additional resources, as needed
Serves as a technical safety resource for department to assist and guide management and employees in resolving safety concerns
Recommend measures to improve internal processes and best practices regarding safety programs in order to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.
Knowledge of workplace safety best practices for office and field operations
Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and standards (OSHA, ANSI, etc.)
Knowledge of MUTCD related to work-zone traffic control and special events traffic control.
Knowledge of principles of accident prevention, loss control, and industrial hygiene
Knowledge of medical requirements for standard and commercial driver’s license as specified by Arizona’s Department of Transportation
Knowledge of development and delivering departmental safety programs and training
Knowledge of communication strategies
Skill in providing guidance, and support to department, divisions and team members
Skill in building relationships and partnerships with others to achieve training goals
Skill in preparing reports and other written documents
Skill in critical thinking and problem solving
Skill in safe and efficient operation and maintenance of trucks and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
Skill in use of modern office equipment including computers, computer applications, and software
Ability to detect and correct unsafe working conditions and practices in order to prevent accidents or injuries to employees or citizen passers-by.
Ability to Work collaboratively and productively with internal partners, community agencies and constituents
Ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety & Risk Management, Human Resources, Education; or an Associated degree directly related to the core functions of the position; 2 years experience in department-wide occupational Safety & Training, Motor Vehicle Safety Programs and Accident Prevention; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; AND valid driver’s license; AND must be able to acquire a CDL within 6 months of hire.
Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Risk management, logistics or related field; OR 4 years experience in safety, accident prevention, and training; AND one year of experience in coordinating and implementing training; OR any equivalent combination of education, training or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; possession of OSHA 500- 501 training certifications are preferred.
