ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a candidate that will:
- Examine the evidence, witness statements, the nature of the crime, whether the evidence justifies prosecution, and make independent charging decisions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and criminal justice partners.
- Communicate with victims and comply with victims’ rights.
Specifically:
- Represents the office in misdemeanor and/or felony-level criminal proceedings including the scheduling of cases, plea negotiations, probation revocations hearings, motions, and sentencings.
- Handles jury trials, bench trials and presents oral arguments as needed.
- Researches and analyzes legal issues.
- Writes legal memoranda and pleadings regarding legal issues of concern as needed in assigned cases.
- May be assigned to specialty prosecution duties such as treatment courts (Drug and Veterans Court), sex and child crimes, arsons, drug crimes, or violent crimes.
AreaThe Navajo County Attorney’s Office is in Holbrook, with a satellite office in Show Low. There are varied communities to choose from to live in with their own unique features. From Winslow with Route 66 and Standing on the Corner, Snowflake and Taylor in the rolling hills with a history rooted in the early Mormon pioneers, to the Show Low and Pinetop-Lakes communities situated in the Sitgreaves Forest.

PositionsAttorney IExperience 0 to 2 years
Salary $79,213.55 -- $85,304.32
This is the entry and first working level in the career series. Attorneys are required to be members of the Arizona State Bar upon appointment, but no previous legal experience is required. Attorneys hired at this level are typically assigned to handle misdemeanor prosecutions with limited supervision and handle some felonies under the direction of more experienced prosecutors. After two years, attorneys are typically promoted to Attorney II, subject to meeting performance expectations.
Attorney IIExperience 3 to 5 years
Salary $89,622.86 -- $96,514.01
This is the second level in the career series. Attorneys at this level are expected to independently manage a routine felony caseload. After three years (five years prosecution experience), attorneys are typically promoted to Attorney III, subject to meeting performance expectations.
Attorney IIIExperience 5 years plus
Salary $101,400.03 – 126,634.75
This is the third level in the career series. Attorneys at this level are expected to independently manage a felony case load that would include serious and complex cases. They may provide training and technical expertise to less experienced attorneys. A high level of independence in handling cases and assignments is expected at this level
Attorney IVExperience 10 years in the Navajo County Attorney’s Office
Salary $106,533.41 -- $133,045.63
This is the fourth level in the career series and requires the attorney to be with the Navajo County Attorney’s Office for ten years.
