Responsibilities & Duties
Assist in ensuring compliance with local and federal laws of Good Manufacturing Practices in order to produce optimum quality and product reliability at the most economical costs by:

  • Leads department in absence of QA Manager.
  • Work in conjunction with the QA Manager to oversee development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF system – Food Safety and Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Ensure all products are organoleptically and microbiologically sampled in accordance with company specifications.
  • Co-lead monthly plant audits of established systems.
  • Assist in ensuring for regularly scheduled inspections to ascertain plant compliance with established sanitation regulations.
  • Supporting adherence to the Master Sanitation schedule
  • Monitor facility integrity, report and communicate deviations to appropriate departments.
  • Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality system.
  • Ensure all reviews and major changes to the SQF system are documented.
  • Work in conjunction with the QA Manager to validate changes to Food Safety Fundamentals, Food Safety Plans, and Food Quality Plans that have an impact to deliver safe, quality food.
  • Providing GMP/HACCP related training to all employees.
  • Investigate deviations to procedures, systems, or standards, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Co-lead customer audits and third-party audits along with the QA Manager.
  • Maintain plant environmental testing program, implement, and follow-up on corrective actions.
  • Assist in short term planning to ensure a safe but efficient production schedule.
  • Ensure the correct documentation is filed electronically and physically for all raw materials.
  • Ensure high risk items for non-GMO project have correct documentation

Ensure compliance and implement corrective actions, in order to produce the highest level of quality product that Nature's Path can produce by:

  • Investigate Quality Assurance complaints and implement corrective actions.
  • Audit and assist suppliers to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain and update specifications of all ingredients and incoming raw materials from approved supplier lists.
  • Shared responsibility on the development and incorporation of new and existing technologies, including calibrations, testing, validations, data analysis, monitoring, procedure development, and training.
  • Update and/or develop documentation such as SOPs and SSOPs.
  • Conduct laboratory work for food analysis for R&D and QA
  • Attend training to build skill sets and become more apt and proficient in the food testing environment.

Work in close liaison between management and the team, to develop dedicated, focused, and capable team members in order to meet Nature's Path’s current and future operating needs by:

  • Assist the QA Manager with the development and maintenance of QA initiatives.
  • Recruit, lead, coach, and train QA Technicians to achieve company and departmental objectives.
  • Evaluate QA Technicians through performance reviews, ongoing coaching, and feedback.
  • Responsible for managing, directing, and scheduling of QA personnel.
  • Manage and supervise QA daily activities, meetings, and discussions.
  • Assume the role of QA Technician when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Oversight of and performance according to the established safety and GMP practices that are set in place by Nature’s Path Foods by:

  • Abiding by all rules and safety regulations as set forth by Nature Path Foods.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment for the team and making the Production or Safety Manager aware of any equipment or personnel safety issues.
  • Ensuring adherence of all aspects of the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) program
  • Knowing where the MSDS is located and how to read them.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

  • BS in Food Science, Food Technology, or related degree; and/or equivalent relevant work experience.

Experience

  • Quality Control in a food processing environment preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude for assisting in implementing new test methodology and high tech testing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and QA programs, such as HACCP, GMP, and SPC
  • Strong Continuous Improvement experience, i.e. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • High attention to detail is a must
  • Prior supervisory and scheduling experience preferred
  • Previous exposure to allergen clean ups
  • Knowledge of environmental swabbing practices and procedures
