The Science Department Head Teacher will be part of this historic opening of the onlyJesuit all-girls school in Massachusetts.Science Department Head Overview: Reporting to the Principal, the Science Department Head Teacher serves as the primary Scienceteacher for multiple grade levels. In addition to providing direct classroom instruction, the teacherserves as a mentor to the Teaching Fellows on the Science team, and is an essential point of contactwith families.
The teacher strives to create an environment where students can achieve to theirhighest potential, as measured by demonstrable academic and social gains.Primary Responsibilities: Reporting to the Principal, your responsibilities will consist of the following: Modeling of successful teacher practices: o Lead teach three to four sections of Science classes (depending on the needs of theschool).o Taking a leadership role in the co-teaching/paraprofessional mode with a focus ongrowing the impact of the Science program.o Leading Science team meetings and engaging in formal mentoring responsibilities ofNativity Fellows.o Participating in Student Support Team meetings.o Maintaining a Curriculum Document that includes: A copy of lesson plans. A copy of any unit plans utilized in class. A copy of all worksheets (with reference numbers tied back to lesson plans)used in class. A copy of all assessments used in class.
Participate in the schools student support model where needed including: o Actively participating in weekly Student Support Team meetings.o Running small group and individual work during WIN blocks as needed. Assisting in regular staffing responsibilities as outlined in the Nativity Faculty Handbook andNativity Employee Manual.o Attending and actively participating in weekly staff meetings.o Assisting in emergency teaching and coverage needs, as such needs develop.o Participating in mandatory staff orientation prior to the start of the school year andtwo annual two-day retreats. Assist the Principal with special projects, such as serving as a member of the AdmissionCommittee or other committees, as needed. Promote the schools diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racist work within the academicprogram, curriculum and day-to-day duties.You will also be expected to: Participate in Summer Session orientation and Summer Session (July).o Summer Orientation Dates: June 28-July 2ndo Summer Session Dates: July 8th-July 26tho August Orientation: Starts August 19 Follow the annual Academic Calendar (to be forwarded to employees in August), withparticipation in staff orientation prior to the start of school year.
Assist in regular staffing responsibilities as outlined in the Nativity Faculty Handbook: o Such tasks include participating in one late day ending at 5:30 pm (i.e. end ofacademic day through end of after-school day) per week and assisting with lunch orrecess duties as needed.o Attending and actively participating in weekly staff meetings.o Assisting with morning advisory and in emergency teaching needs, as such needsdevelop. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issuesregarding the internal and external Nativity Worcester community. Fulfill responsibilities as memorialized in the Nativity Employee Handbook.Qualifications: At least two years of classroom experience, preferably in middle school.
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification in subjectarea. Openness to embracing and promoting the Jesuit mission and identity of Nativity School ofWorcester. Proficiency with the Spanish language preferred but not required.
