Overview

Call-in/contingent

Working a minimimu of 16 hours per month 

Respiratory Therapists specialize in the promotion of optimum cardiopulmonary function and health. They apply scientific principles to prevent, identify, and treat acute or chronic dysfunction of the cardiopulmonary system. All goals are to ensure best patient outcomes. Respiratory Therapists are authorized to access the unit medication rooms or bedside medication drawers in order to retrieve medications they are authorized to administer.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of the scientific principles underlying cardiopulmonary physiology and pathophysiology, as well as biomedical engineering and technology
  • Respiratory therapists will effectively offer preventative care to, as well as assess, educate, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies.
  • Respiratory Care is practiced under medical direction across the health care continuum.
  • Critical thinking, patient/environment assessment skills, and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines enable respiratory therapists to develop and implement effective care plans, patient-driven protocols, disease-based clinical pathways, and disease management programs.
  • Provides Respiratory Care using a Family Centered Approach
  • Assesses individualized patient cardiopulmonary needs and communicates them to the care team.
  • Embraces the interdisciplinary care model and stays aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant staff meetings and then reporting information and updates back to staff.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy

LICENSURE: Current Ohio license to practice respiratory care. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required.

CERTIFICATIONS: Additional credential of NPS strongly encouraged for all staff. RPFT and AE-C are encouraged for select areas. Current CPR card and dependent on unit of hire, RT will need to obtain and maintain PALS and/or NRPNote: Regular, reliable and consistent attendance is an essential job function.
