Responsibilities

1. Provides culturally competent and appropriate primary medical intervention to patients and families seen primarily in the Main Campus Urgent Care, but also in the Primary Care Clinics. You may be assigned to work one or more primary care sessions a week.2. Practices medicine according to the standards recognized by Children?s Hospital, The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health and the American Academy of Pediatrics.3. Directs the efforts of other members of the health care team to provide quality comprehensive health services to meet the needs of each patient.4. Implements standards of quality care as determined by the hospital CQI team.5. Actively participates in the clinical teaching programs of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and School of Public Health.6. Conducts appropriate clinical research of personal interest with approval of the Ambulatory Section Chief and in accordance with the research policies established by Children?s Hospital.7. Maintains knowledge of current medical and technological developments in the field of pediatrics.8. Cooperates with local community/institutions to provide consultative pediatric services as needed.9. Maintains good communication with pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists.10. Maintains good communication with associated areas of hospital ?i.e. Emergency Department and Medical Records.11. Participates in limited administrative activities as assigned.12. Assures good customer service.13. Attends and actively participates in monthly section meetings and staff meetings.14. Focused Urgent Care Expectations include the following: a. You will be expected to work a full four or eight hour shift. b. Your will be expected to review and sign off on all labwork, xray reports, referrals, and other patient data returned to the MCUC each day. This may necessitate calls to patients and/or primary care providers. c. You are a part of the MCUC team. As such, you will be expected to assist with the team?s work and efficiencies ? such as rooming patients if not busy, discharging patients not needing further care, or documenting vital signs, etc. d. You may have a float session designated. During this time, you will be assigned to vacant sessions first in the MCUC, or any of the Primary Care sites. All time not worked will be monitored for future scheduling. e. If you have academic time, you will be on jeopardy call during this time twice a month. You may be called to fill an immediate vacancy in the MCUC or Fast Track PC.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREDEducation: Must have completed medical school in a fully accredited institution and completed training in an approved residency program. Must be board certified or board-eligible pediatrician, holding a license to practice in the State of Ohio.Experience: Primary Care and/or Urgent Care experience desirable.Personal: Must have medical staff privileges at Children?s Hospital and be eligible for clinical teaching position at the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.Professional Role Model: Must display positive professional interaction with other attendings, residents and members of the health care team. Must be respectful, tactful, honest, use the team approach to care and maintain an open-line of communication.Must display sound patient and parental interactions. Must have a passion for underserved children, be insightful, and maintain an open line of communication. Must be available when needed by other members of the health care team to discuss care issues. Must encourage and support other team members.Teaching Techniques: Must display positive teaching attitudes. Actively participate in the formal and clinical teaching. Must stimulate learning behavior. Must give ongoing feedback to housestaff in a considerate objective manner.Attidudes: Must be committed to primary care. Must be passionate for underserved children. Must enjoy role as a teacher and clinician. Must be willing to remain available for housestaff and patients. Must be respectful of team members, patients, and families, particularly those of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
