Nationwide Children's Hospital is Hiring a Patient Care Assistant- Cardiology Clinic Near Columbus, OH

Overview

Full-time, 40 hours per week

Typical daytime hours, Monday-Friday | No overnight travel

-Minimum pay is $19.00 per hour

The Cardiology Clinic sees patients at main campus clinic (Columbus, Ohio) and some regional locations throughout Ohio. Nurses and PCAs may be assigned to work at one of these locations on any given day. The team will meet at Nationwide Children’s Main Campus location and ride together in an NCH vehicle. Team members share driving to and from these locations. 

Team members also care for adults of all ages, with congenital heart disease.

PCA tasks- taking vitals, manual blood pressure checks, EKGs, placing cardiac monitors on patients to wear home, stocking, cleaning, and turning over rooms.

Main campus sees around 60 patients per day in the clinic. On average, the PCA will see 15 patients per day.

Responsibilities

• Performs clerical office coordination and administrative tasks as necessary. • Collects, documents, and reports vital signs such as: blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, heights, and weights. Completes screening questions and documents all items into medical record. • Promotes general patient safety and performs minor specimen testing. Holds, positions patients and assists with procedures. Preps all materials and supplies as needed. • Remains compliant with HIPAA, maintains professionalism and ensures confidentiality of patient information. • Ensures environmental standards are met and all clinic and patient areas are stocked, cleaned, and maintained. • Identifies learning needs and attends continuing education as appropriate. Participates in educational activities offered by the business unit. Acts as a preceptor of orientation and training of other PCA staff.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure & Experience Required:

-Active, licensed State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) OR

-One year of patient care experience in a hospital setting within the past three years OR

-Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an ACEN or CCNE accredited program.

Skills: 1. Sound written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. 2. Demonstrated basic computer skills. 3. Must demonstrate competence as defined in the Patient Care Assistant responsibilities/skills checklist in providing age appropriate care and services to pediatric patients of all ages and selected adult patients. 4. Displays a positive presence and interacts with all levels of staff, outside vendors, consultants, and physicians. Experience: One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past three years. Nursing students can qualify if they have successfully completed the fundamentals of nursing course(s) of an accredited college/school program. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Occasionally, 1-33% of the time: Climb stairs/ladder; sitting; lifting/carrying 410-60lbs, 61-100lbs, 100lbs with assistance. May come into contact with fumes, gases, vapors, biohazard waste, machinery, and power tools. Frequently, 34-66% of the time: Squat/kneel; reaching above shoulder; repetitive arm and hand use. Lifting/carrying 040lbs; pushing/pulling 0-61lbs; depth perception-vision. May come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases or pathogens, chemicals, and electricity. Continuously, 67-100% of the time: Standing, walking, audible speech, speech clarity and hearing acuity. Color vision, seeing far/near. EOE M/F/Disability/Vet
