Responsibilities

• Provides direct pastoral care and counseling to patients, families, and staff; provides emotional and spiritual support in times of crisis, including end of life or during anticipatory grief; uses dynamics of interpersonal relationships and appropriate religious resources to help ease anxiety and to help persons integrate their experience with their view of life. • Understands and is compliant with all hospice or palliative care regulations and requirements, including IDT meetings, care planning, and documentation. • Occasional evening and weekend hours are required for patient death visits or other urgent matters, as requested by the Hospice Manager. • Provides informal and formal consultation to staff in the development of emotional and spiritual care plans for patients and their families. In addition, provides educational offerings on topics relevant to spiritual care throughout the hospital. • Maintains consultative relationships with the community; consults with clergy, congregations, and religious bodies regarding spiritual care of patients and families. Assists in providing workshops for local clergy; participates in one’s own faith group activities as appropriate. Note: Regular, reliable and consistent attendance is an essential job function. Qualifications

Education Requirement: • Master of Divinity or Theology degree from an accredited seminary or graduate school, or equivalent. • Completion of at least one unit of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education. Licensure Requirement: Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines. Certifications: • Endorsement as a chaplain by one of the Ecclesiastical Endorsing Organizations of the Department of Veterans Affairs, or equivalent. • Board certified or board certified eligible in the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains, strongly preferred. • Hospice and Palliative Care Certification, or equivalent, preferred. Skills: • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to respond appropriately to situations with complex emotional and relational dynamics.MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSSitting Constantly (67-100%)Talking on phone or in person ConstantlyStanding or walking Occasionally (0-33%).Reliable, personal vehicle required.
