Purpose of this Job Position 

The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Physical Therapist and Rehab Department in conducting therapy treatments to improve patients’ mobility and physical health. 

Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant treats patients for difficulties with mobility, function, strength and positioning and scope of practice as outlined by APTA and licensure laws in respective state under the supervision of the Licensed Physical Therapist. The PTA may also assist in conducting in-services and training for facility staff on an ongoing basis in restorative and functional maintenance programs. The Physical Therapy Assistant reports to Licensed Physical Therapist and/or Director of Rehabilitation and is responsible to the Administrator. The PTA communicates and collaborates with families, physicians and other health team members and maintains impeccable, professional documentation of services in the medical record. FOC’s PTs model and promote competent, courteous and professional services to internal and external customers to develop and maintain a competitive advantage. Delegation of Authority

As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Essential Functions of the Job

• Treat patients according to the treatment plan of care developed by and under the supervision of the Licensed Physical Therapist. 

• Communicate with the Physical Therapist, the patient and/or family and facility staff any pertinent information concerning patient progress, problems and plans. 

• Participate in Patient Plan of Care Meetings and Interdisciplinary Team Meetings if asked by the Physical Therapist. 

• Participate in in-service training program for other staff in the facility. 

Essential Functions of the Job

 • Record treatment notes, progress notes, provide objective input for discharge summaries and complete daily billing of services per policy and procedure. 

• Instruct patients’ families and/or nursing staff in maintenance programs under the supervision of the Physical Therapist. 

• Participate in discharge planning under the supervision of the Physical Therapist. 

• Recommend any needed equipment to the Physical Therapist which would facilitate improved delivery of clinical services. 

• Report any problems with department equipment to the appropriate personnel. 

• Comply with the Physical Therapy Assistant Licensure and Certification Standards.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant

Must be Licensed in the state(s) where services are being provided as a Certified Physical Therapy Assistant
