National Park Service is Hiring a Maintenance Worker (MVO) Open Continuous Near New York, NY

This is an open continuous vacancy announcement. Applicants will be referred periodically throughout the announcement period. Final application disposition will be completed once all positions have been filled or the announcement reaches the end of the open period stated in the announcement. Qualifications:


To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)

Screen Out: Must able to perform common trades work associated with buildings and utilities without more than normal supervision, including providing a simple layout of work assignments, selecting tools and materials, and evaluating work for accuracy, completeness. Have some experience working with and caring for common power and hand tools, working with materials, and performing tasks associated with trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and electrical.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP - Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(2) for CTAP or 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes a copy of the agency notice, a copy of their most recent Performance Rating, and a copy of their most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location. Responsibilities:

  • Constructs, alters, modifies, or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters, and other facilities.
  • Installs, modifies, or repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment.
  • Paints, decorates, and refinishes a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices, buildings, other structures, finishing and equipment.
  • Maintains, constructs, and repairs a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials.
  • Installs or repairs electrical systems required in the construction or maintenance of buildings, quarters, offices, and shops.
