Know the World, Show the Way ... from Seabed to SpaceAssignment DescriptionASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: R&D Scientists apply the scientific method in one or more disciplines (e.g., Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Computer Science, Mathematics, Image Science, Human Terrain Analysis) to advance Geospatial Science and enhance Agency tradecraft. They conduct and develop novel scientific research projects and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to further scientific inquiry and application. They provide technical guidance and oversight, report results, and advise management on new and evolving technology. They address a variety of complex data-related analytical problems by applying quantitative and qualitative analytic methods.Promotion OpportunityPROMOTION OPPORTUNITY: Promotion opportunities allow applicants at all band levels to be considered. Qualifications for NGA positions do not include specific time-in-band requirements. NGA will emphasize quality of experience, rather than duration, and assess how the quality of the experience demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance in the NGA occupational structure.Additional InformationADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The selected applicant will conduct novel scientific research to advance GEOINT for use in critical aerospace, missile, and space applications. The duties include supporting and overseeing research programs, validating research results, collaborative research with other agencies, and transitioning relevant technologies. The position includes completing research on new algorithms to advance EO/IR system capabilities, modeling and simulation, evaluation of technical performance, ground truth, detailed data analysis, collection planning, and coordination with the larger R&D, DoD and Intelligence Community (IC).

The Spectral Science pod focuses on enriching GEOINT by developing and transitioning capabilities for the extraction of intelligence content from spectral and temporal imagery sources.

This position may be eligible for a RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE: selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment. Additional information regarding recruitment incentives for current federal employees can be found in DoDI 1400.25, Volume 2006.Qualifications MandatoryMANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement’s mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement:

1. Demonstrated experience successfully modeling signatures for EO/IR sensors to conduct research and analysis.
2. Demonstrated experience with algorithm development using programs such as Matlab, Java, or Python.
3. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and maintain working relationships across multiple stakeholders (e.g. Program Offices; Systems Engineers; Subject Matter Experts; Researchers; Technical Experts, and/or acquisitions personnel).
4. Demonstrated knowledge of R&D missile and space systems.
5. Experience working in diverse, collaborative networks of peers, customers, and stakeholders, within or across organizations, to share knowledge and achieve results.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline that includes 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in Mathematics, Science and/or a related Engineering Science such as Dynamics, Electronics, Mechanics, and Properties of Materials. Such coursework includes, but is not limited to, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Programming, Data Mining, Cybersecurity, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, or Statistics. Although not mandatory, coursework in differential and integral calculus is preferred. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework as listed in option A, plus experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals to 4 years.Qualifications DesirableDESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired:

1. Three years of Intelligence Community experience.
2. Demonstrated experience managing the contracting and/or program risk; schedule, and budget for technology development programs and/or research projects.
