The National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) is looking for a Child Forensic Interviewer Specialist to join our team of dedicated professionals. This role is responsible for providing high-quality forensic interviewing services to children regarding allegations of child maltreatment.
About the role
In this role, you will need to work collaboratively and in close partnership with family/victim advocates, therapists, and medical staff as well as NCAC’s partners on the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including the Department of Human Resources, law enforcement and the district attorney’s office. NCAC serves a diverse client base and highly values diverse, qualified candidates and staff. Experienced professionals who are fluent in English and Spanish are highly encouraged to apply. Flexibility to work some late afternoon and early evening hours is required. This is a full-time, on-site position in Huntsville, Alabama. This position will be filled ASAP so applications will be reviewed as they are received.
A typical day may include some or all of the following:
  • Conducting forensic interviews of children and adolescents alleging child abuse.
  • Facilitating pre/post interview multidisciplinary case staffing.
  • Participating in an MDT meeting and presenting results of forensic interviews.
  • Testifying in court in response to a subpoena.
  • Reaching out to MDT partners to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Assisting with cross-reporting child abuse cases or with communications between local MDT members and professionals with other jurisdictions.
  • Collaborating on scheduling forensic interviews with law enforcement and DHR investigators.
  • Participating in supervision, professional development, or other on-going training activities such as assigned reading, role-play, and interview review.
  • Participating in a regional Forensic Interview Peer Review and/or assisting with scheduling and logistics for the monthly meetings.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as monthly calendars for forensic interviewers or transferring recorded interviews from one platform to another.

Education and experience requirements we are looking for include:
  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in social work or a closely related field.
  • Previous training and experience conducting forensic interviews in a Children’s Advocacy Center environment preferred
  • Additional experience working with abused children and adolescents preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for include:
  • Strong working knowledge of child abuse and neglect dynamics, multidisciplinary team response to the investigation of child abuse, and forensic interviewing of children.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates interest in ongoing development of skills in forensic interviewing

  • Must be able to occasionally work non-traditional hours associated with a limited on-call protocol.
Location and Hours
This position is located on our campus in Huntsville, Alabama. The schedule is primarily weekdays but will occasionally require non-traditional hours when on call. Flexibility to work some late afternoon and early evening hours is required.
