JOB SUMMARY:

The National Aquarium (NA) is dedicated to cultivating and advancing the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in all that we are and all that we do. The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) Director will be responsible for managing the sustained activation and implementation of the National Aquarium’s DEIJ-related goals and objectives, in alignment with the National Aquarium’s Strategic Plan. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Alignment, this person will guide the development and monitor progress of key projects related to structural equity, auditing and analysis of data, learning and development strategies, leadership accountability, internal communications, and more.

Starting Salary Range: $70,000-85,000 per year.

Essential Job Functions:

·Lead execution of implementation plan priorities by engaging departments and staffing levels individually, co-creating opportunities for people and departments to contribute to DEIJ work efforts

·Act as project manager for DEIJ implementation actions and strategic priorities by defining, monitoring and managing work progress

·In partnership with the DEIJ Steering Committee, Aquarium Leaders and Internal Communications functional units, develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy for DEIJ efforts and learning topics

·Facilitate the National Aquarium’s DEIJ Steering Committee, ensuring participant accountability, inclusion and organizational alignment

·In collaboration with the Human Resources & Organizational Development functional units, develop, coordinate and facilitate priority organizational trainings to support the DEIJ-related education opportunities of all employees, volunteers and business partners

·Support the development of funding proposals to ensure sustained financial resources to implement DEIJ priorities within the organization

·Prepare evaluations, departmental DEIJ budget, summary reports, etc. as needed for internal and external requirements

·Stay current on emerging DEIJ related issues and best practices

·Contribute to ongoing organizational culture change by providing and partnering with internal stakeholders on solutions and recommendations related to DEIJ concerns and topics.

·Contribute to priority internal and external DEIJ-related collaboratives and partnerships to ensure alignment with industry trends and organizational needs

Preferred Knowledge & Skills: 

·Five to seven years of experience leading and implementing diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility initiatives in a workplace or community setting

·Solid understanding and knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice best practices, policies, and regulations, including cultural competency

·Strategic planning skills, including strong working knowledge of practices in continuous process improvement, continually looking for opportunities to streamline processes in support of DEIJ and strategic priorities

·Strong organizational project and time management skills

·Strong leadership and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage staff at all levels

·Excellent communication, interpersonal and facilitation skills

·Qualitative and quantitative research and analytics experience

·Comfort working in a diverse team environment
