This task currently uses a data base consisting of more than ten years' observations made with the ion-mass spectrometer experiment on the International Sun/Earth Explorer-3/International Cometary Explorer spacecraft. It has been supported by appropriate theoretical work on modeling multicomponent solar winds and acceleration mechanisms. The composition of the solar wind, its time variations, and their relationship to solar events are studied. Collaborations with workers at the Universities of Bern and Maryland are in progress, and data from the Ulysses spacecraft is now available. Current investigations include the composition of plasma associated with magnetic clouds and bidirectional streaming events, and Coronal Mass Ejection events.
