Located in East Meadow, Nassau University Medical Center is the only public safety net hospital and community health care center in Nassau County. We are a Level I Trauma Center and a 530-bed teaching hospital.

We are seeking a Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Counselor:

In this position, you will:

• Conduct initial individual lay-counseling sessions with newly admitted substance abuse clients
• Conduct follow-up counseling sessions to ascertain clients' attitudes, insights and motivations.
• Conduct group counseling sessions.
• Provide lay-counseling for spouse and/or immediate family members of substance abuse clients.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.

We Require:

• High School Diploma
• Two years of paid or volunteer experience as a lay-counselor in a substance abuse treatment facility.
• CASAC certification strongly preferred.
• Candidates must be Bilingual
• One year (30 credits) of education at a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience as outlined above.
• Eighty (80) clock hours of relevant addictions instruction for Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling as defined by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse may be substituted for the above-mentioned experience on a year-for-year basis (eighty clock hours equals one year) up to a maximum of two years.
