Nashville Organized for Action and Hope (NOAH) is Hiring a Community Organizer Near Nashville, TN

Primary Responsibility: Serves as Community Organizer for NOAH in building power through expanding membership, increasing funding streams, building leadership, and determining local issues for action. This includes organizing teams for power analysis, research, and public actions. Reports to and is supervised by Organizing Director.

Duties:

  • Develops and implements strategies for recruiting and engaging NOAH member institutions, especially under-represented faith communities and ethnic groups.
  • Develops relationships with community leaders
  • Structures and designs issue campaigns in collaboration with the Organizing Director
  • Assists in the development of existing leaders and recruiting new leadership.
  • Works with NOAH Task Forces in power analysis, determining specific issues, and developing and implementing organizing efforts.
  • Assists leadership in staffing meetings

  • Ability to function independently exercising discretion with minimal supervision
  • Capacity to organize fundraising campaigns and write grants
  • Skills in communication, program planning and evaluation
  • Ability to develop leadership through relationships and delegation of responsibility
  • Excellent time-management skills; ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Maintain a respectful balance between being cooperative and creating positive tension
  • Ability to work as a part of a diverse team that includes various experiences of race, gender, faith, ability, and age.

Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Two years or more of relational community organizing experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant field of study OR equivalent experience
  • Understanding and analysis of the systemic nature of oppression
  • Experience and knowledge working in African-American faith communities required
  • Experience in successful grant writing preferred
  • Past experience in successful issue campaigns
  • Ability to organize in underserved communities of color
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office programs, internet-based software, NOAH’s dues database, website maintenance, social media competency, and portable digital platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a working vehicle

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
