Organizational ScopeReporting directly to the Director of Student Services, the Director of Early Childhood leads through a lens of equity in providing leadership to the District and families in all phases of early care and education to maximize opportunities for all students to reach their full potential. The Director evaluates and supervises all early childhood eductors and support staff.
The Director of Early Childhood, a member of the District Leadership Team, serves as the Team Chair for all early childhood Team meetings, and is responsible for all initial and reevaluation reports for early childhood special education students.
Position Responsibilities
  • Maintains quality standards in early childhood programs leading to NAEYC accreditation;
  • Coordinates with administrators, special education and general education staff in planning, implementing, and managing programs and services for preschool students with and without disabilities;
  • Promotes the inclusion of special education students in the least restrictive environment;
  • Attends IEP meetings, and serves as Team Chair for Pre School students;
  • Together with the principals, participates in the recruitment and selection of properly licensed personnel required to provide early childhood services;
  • Oversees student assessment practices and analyzes data as identified by the District and by DESE/DEE;
  • Oversees the delivery of early childood professional development;
  • Evaluates, coaches, and supervises early childhood professional and support staff;
  • Identifies student educational needs and works with the staff to implement the NRSD Strategic Plan;
  • Organizes parent and community networks and programs in support of early childhood care, readiness, and education, including student play groups;
  • Collaborates with Early Intervention regarding individual students, and maintains effective communication with EI area offices;
  • Creates and manages an annual budget for the Early Childhood Department;
  • Writes, oversees and implements relevant state and federal grants in support of Early Childhood Education and Care and performs the responsibilities as defined therein; and
  • Plans, implements, and participates in relevant district committees and meetings.

Job Qualifications
  • MA DESE licensure as Principal/Assistant Principal, grades PreK-8, or Supervisor/Director, Non-Core- Early Childhood;
  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration or related field;
  • Early childhood or elementary teaching experience;
  • School administration/instructional leadership experience and experience managing state and federal grants;
  • Working knowlede of Special Education laws and regulations as they appply to the Early Chioldhood population;
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem solving skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage own workload;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents and other citizens and represntatives of organizations;
  • Experience in diversity, equity and inclusion best practices; and
  • Ability to assist in the protection of students and school property, and assist the principal in fire or other emergency or emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy.
  • The ability to work onsite in school buildings is an essential function of this position.
Physical Demands
  • Travel to district schools and buildings is frequently required. Therefore, the ability to walk and stand on tile flooring is required. Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and twist regularly at the waist, knees and neck;
  • Other work is performed in a typical office environment requiring minimal to light physical effort. This may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of office settings, such as proximity to colleagues, temperature variations, frequent interruptions and moderate noise.
  • This position may require the abilyt to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed and for lengthy periods of time
Terms Of Employment, Evaluation Of Performance, And Salary
  • The Director is a 200-day full-time FLSA exempt employee. Terms of employment, including salary, are negotiated individually with the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Committee's policy on Evauation of Professional Personnel.
