Nantucket Elementary School is Hiring a Science Teacher (K-2) Near Nantucket, MA

Position Overview: Nantucket Elementary School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Science Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for science in students, fostering curiosity and critical thinking through hands-on experiments, engaging lessons, and real-world applications. This role involves creating dynamic lesson plans, assessing student understanding, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience. Key Responsibilities: 1. Instructional Planning and Delivery: ● Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned science lesson plans for elementary students. ● Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on experiments, technology integration, and project-based learning. ● Foster an environment of inquiry and exploration, encouraging students to ask questions and think critically. 2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring: ● Conduct regular assessments to gauge student understanding and identify areas for improvement. ● Use assessment data to inform and adjust instruction, ensuring all students achieve academic growth. ● Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate progress to students and parents.3. Classroom Management: ● Create a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment that promotes respect and cooperation. ● Implement effective classroom management strategies to support student engagement and minimize disruptions. ● Establish clear routines and procedures to ensure a structured learning environment. 4. Collaboration and Communication: ● Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and administration to enhance the science curriculum and overall student experience. ● Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, upcoming events, and classroom activities. ● Participate in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. 5. Professional Development: ● Stay current with best practices in science education and participate in ongoing professional development. ● Reflect on teaching practices and seek opportunities for growth and improvement. Qualifications: ● Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Science Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). ● Valid state teaching certification in Elementary Education or Science. ● Experience teaching science to elementary students preferred. ● Strong knowledge of scientific principles and methods, as well as child development and pedagogy. ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. ● Ability to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment. ● Enthusiasm for science and a passion for inspiring young learners.
