Position Overview
The System Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and managing Windows operating systems and virtual machines, alongside related software.Oversee VMware vCenter and Horizon View environments, including virtual machine deployment and monitoring.Design, implement, and maintain Windows Server environments, along with managing MS SQL Server databases.Troubleshoot technical issues concerning Windows OS, virtualization technologies, and network protocols, alongside collaborating with IT peers to ensure system efficiency.Encompass documenting IT systems, staying updated on industry trends, and participating in on-call rotations for after-hours support.
Position Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows operating systems, virtual machines, and related software
  • Manage and maintain VMware vCenter and Horizon View environments, including virtual machine deployment, configuration, and monitoring
  • Design, implement, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and failover clustering
  • Manage and maintain MS SQL Server databases, including database design, performance tuning, and backup/recovery strategies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Windows operating systems, virtualization technologies, and network protocols
  • Work closely with other IT team members to ensure efficient operation of all IT systems and services
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation of IT systems and processes
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in Windows system administration and virtualization technologies
  • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support and maintenance as needed
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. Must be able to travel to remote data centers or business locations that are located in Houston and the Dallas area. This position works in an office and data center environment. Will require some travel. Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday during normal business hours. Will need to be available 24 hours in case of emergencies.
Work Schedule
Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some travel may be required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling.
Working Relationship
The System Administrator reports to the IT Manager and works in relation to other IT team members
Fit for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the office building.
Compensation
The initial annual salary will range from $99,000 - $114,000
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Five years of experience in Windows System Administration
  • Two years of experience with VMware vCenter and Horizon View
  • ITIL certification or other relevant industry certifications desired
Specific Skills and Knowledge
  • Software/Equipment Knowledge:
    • At least 2 years of experience with VMware vCenter and Horizon View
    • At least 5 years of experience with Windows Server, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, failover clustering, and MS SQL Server
    • Strong understanding of Windows operating systems, virtualization technologies, and network protocols
    • Experience with scripting and automation tools, such as PowerShell
  • Other Considerations:
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
