The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree, and a Massachusetts DESE license. They will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and demonstrate interpersonal skills. They possess the ability to relate well with students, staff, administrators, parents and the community.Qualifications: * At least three years of successful elementary teaching experience * Appropriate Master’s degree, Special Education preferred * Certification as a Pre-K - 8 Principal/Assistant Principal or other Administrative level certification, as approved by the Superintendent of Schools * Strong understanding of Special Education, Civil Rights and 504 compliance * Strong presence and ability to chair Special Education Eligibility Meetings * Strong written and oral communication skills * Passion for high academic standards and expectations * Strong interpersonal skills while interacting with students, parents and staff * Successful management and supervisory experience at the elementary school level * Strong organizational skills, especially as it relates to current DESE Special Education documents * Proficient in using technology * Safety Care certified or willingness to be trained * Experience with restorative and or collaborative problem solving practices is highly valued * Alternatives to the above qualifications as may be deemed appropriate and acceptable by the Superintendent of Schools or their designeePerformance Responsibilities:The Assistant Principal is a certified administrator who works closely with the Principal performing administrative tasks in the areas of special education, civil rights, student management, curriculum, instruction and assessment, teacher supervision, evaluation and recruitment, professional development, budget preparation, and public relations. Specific duties include: * Acts in the capacity of building Principal in their absence. * Assists in the coordination of standardized testing programs, assess test results and utilize results to develop school academic improvement plans in cooperation with the Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Curriculum Coordinators * Assist in the coordination and delivery of professional development opportunities for staff in cooperation with District initiatives. * Upholds Student Code of Conduct and fosters Core Values of SPIRIT. * Communicates appropriately with parents and the community-at-large. * Organizes and implements programs and/or activities designed to promote the students’ academic and social/emotional development. * Serves as a member of the district-wide Special Education Team * Chairs all eligibility meetings at the building level, including the facilitation of paperwork associated with pre and post meetings. * Supervises and evaluates teachers, related service providers and teaching assistants, as assigned by the Principal. * Assists the Principal in the preparation of the annual operational budget. * Develops a personal professional development plan designed to maximize knowledge and administrative skills in all areas related to the job description. * Assists the principal with the development of the School Improvement Plan. * Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Principal, Director of Special Education and Social Emotional Learning, or Superintendent of Schools.Physical Demands:Physical demands vary in keeping with the assignment and age of the students, but the position generally requires the ability to communicate verbally and written; walk and stand on tile flooring; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend and twist regularly at the waist, knees and neck. The position may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of a school setting, such as proximity to students and colleagues, temperature variations, frequent interruptions and moderate noise. This position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, and assist in fire and other emergencies drills as required by law and School Committee policy. Assistant Principals are required to become certified and remain certified as Safety Care Specialists.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
