SCHEDULE: Full-time; 36 hours per week; 4 days per week; 7:30 am - 5:30 pm; Saturday rotation

The Clinic Phone Triage Float Nurse (RN or LPN) prioritizes patient appointments for medical practitioner's schedules. Utilizes critical judgment to coordinate with practitioner and clinical staff members for patient access. Will practice within the scope of licensure.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program. Current Iowa Nursing license. Must either be certified in CPR or obtain certification during the first three months of employment. One year in previous clinical job. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Possesses the technical skills and knowledge of equipment mechanisms necessary to delivery quality patient care.

Obtains medical histories from patients/families/significant others/nursing homes, etc. and triages necessity and priority of patient placement within practitioner's schedule. Records briefly in chart or other mechanisms for continuity. Communicates with schedulers and medical practitioner's pod in scheduling appointments or encouraging emergency room assistance. Assists in identifying needs for care at home or alternatives such as outpatient treatment or extended care facilities. Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries and diseases, using available resources in the assessment process. Assesses patient's problems on the phone, triages calls, discusses with medical practitioner/nursing staff and returns calls. Aides in the assessment of physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients. Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, complications, etc. Communicates information to peers, supervisors, physicians. Assists with patient care duties of Pod/Float Clinic Nurse. competent within scope of practice for assessment and care of all ages of patients (infant, pediatric, adult, geriatric).
