MYR Group is Hiring a Safety specialist ii Near Topeka, KS

Essential Functions

  • Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects
  • Coordinate with Operations teams to create site-specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools
  • Participate in project kick off and progress meetings
  • Supporting client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety
  • Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis
  • Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments
  • Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings : New hire orientation, OSHA ETD Quarterly refresher training, Customer required training, Post-incident training as part of a Corrective Action Plan, and Participate in site-specific safety planning.
  • Conduct accident / injury investigations including root cause analyses
  • Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps
  • Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents
  • Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Essential functions of this position are to be performance at a Company-designated office or field location
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include : Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Problem-solving and situation analysis skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence behavior
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry-related safety regulations
  • Must be a team player able to work with co-workers, different departments and outside contacts and maintain strong relationships
  • Attentiveness to details
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Basic understanding of electric construction project management practices and procedures
  • Ability to travel for job site visits for extended periods of time

WHAT WE OFFER

Eligibility : You will become initially eligible on the first day of the benefit month corresponding to the eligibility month in which you first accumulate at least 125 credited hours.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary $70,000-$91,000 / year Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
