Overview

The Employment Specialist will focus on employer engagement and is responsible for working with local businesses to identify employment opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities.

This position will negotiate paid positions and / or develop and coordinate internships within local businesses based on the interests of the job seeker.

Additionally, this role will also be responsible for providing skill instruction and job support. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities :

  • Engages job seekers and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings.
  • Manages an active caseload of approximately 8-12 job seekers. Provides personalized support and attention to each to ensure the best chance of a positive placement.
  • Completes the Positive Personal Profile for each job seeker and develops / implements individualized employment plans with job seekers.
  • Assist with career counseling, evaluation, skills training / assessment, job readiness training and other activities related to employment transition, and successful job placement.
  • Facilitates and schedules interviews, workplace tours and job shadows for job seekers with prospective employers.
  • Works with local businesses to find or create open positions for job seekers.
  • Performs outreach to the local business community including attending individual meetings and making presentations to employer groups to identify potential employment opportunities.
  • Work with employers / businesses to remove employment barriers and resolve issues related to community integration and independence for people with disabilities.
  • Maintains open communication with job seeker, funding source and internal team regarding employment progress.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years of experience working with individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) preferred
  • Previous experience working in employment services for individuals with disabilities preferred
  • Valid Driver's License with three years of good driving history (some travel is required)
  • Demonstrated success in remaining flexible without losing sight of main goal
  • Effective working alone and as a member of a team; willing to travel to other locations as needed
