As a Operations Controller, you will support the US Division Controller in executing the US manufacturing business strategy through working and collaborating with various finance/accounting teams and plant managers. You will ensure manufacturing plants are financially successful by providing financial leadership to the plant management team and demonstrate leadership by preparing, analyzing and interpreting financial data in order to evaluate various business alternatives and recommend the most appropriate business solutions. This role acts as the key contact to the plant management team to drive a profitability culture with an added emphasis on improving the plant operating gross margin and will require you to perform special projects and analysis, as needed, around product costing.

Your responsibilities
  • Engage with plant management to create robust financial forecasts for both cost of goods produced and gross margin. Focus on ability to easily create scenarios with high accuracy with emphasis on a 5Q rolling forecast timeline
  • Consult and mentor staff members on all aspects of financials with emphasis on standard cost theory, burden recovery, product line costs, and overall plant profitability
  • Perform in-depth variance analysis with forecast, budget, and previous period(s), as well as with daily, weekly and monthly financial reporting along with general controlling tasks
  • Analyze productivity and efficiency metrics and promote initiatives and actions to improve
  • Develop an annual operating plan (including associated burden studies), budget, and ongoing production and gross margin forecasts
  • Create and maintain budget for all plant related cost centers
  • Work closely with cost accounting team to set site level burden study and standard costs
  • Report results on product cost improvement projects for direct, indirect and OPEX savings
  • Support and drive both variable and fixed overhead cost reduction projects
  • Provide capital investment analysis along with savings and asset management accountability
  • Combine financial and statistical data to create performance KPIs for manufacturing operations
  • Drive continuous improvement by engaging in variance analysis and provide recommendations to reduce cost and improve gross margin
  • Provide internal and external audit support where needed
Your background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with minimum 10 years experience as a controller and minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment - Required.
  • Preferred Experience Includes: Big 4 accounting firm, CPA, CMA and/or MBA.
  • Challenge status-quo with ability to create new and improved processes for finance deliverables
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, expertise in accounting systems and a focus on cost accounting, operational finance and gross margin
  • Able to prepare production and gross margin forecast on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis and an annual budget and be able to identify, analyze and communicate variances
  • Must demonstrate the highest standards of personal and professional integrity and character and promote ethical business behavior throughout the organization
  • Proficient in MS Office programs and SAP with strong emphasis in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Candidate must have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
