MyCHN is Hiring an Oncology Cancer Treatment Infusion Therapy Nurse Near Houston, TX

Job Summary:

Oncology Nurses serve as a crucial part of a cancer team, coordinating the treatment and services the patient receives. They work in Oncologists office or an outpatient infusion center where Oncology Nurses administer Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy. An Oncology Nurse works closely with individual patients and often becomes a constant for the patient, which can provide comfort and consistency. In summary, our company is looking for an Oncology Nurse who is finally responsible for comprehensive cancer care to Oncology patients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessing patients, vital signs, lab results and reporting back to the Provider if any abnormal findings
  • Access and maintain IV peripheral lines, portacaths and central lines
  • Have extensive knowledge and be able to navigate through NCCN Guidelines to write and follow infusion protocols
  • Learn the precise pharmaceutical calculations to mix chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy and any other medications to be administered via IV.
  • Administer, monitor and maintain chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy and any other medications to be administered via IV
  • Management of side effects and any emergent side effects resulting from IV infusions including anaphylactic shock. In addition, the ability and willingness to pay close attention to detail and notice immediately any changes in patients
  • Thorough education regarding the treatments and answering questions for patients and their family members including providing information on resources
  • Strong communication skills and a strong understanding of cancer treatments and be able to quickly research, support and explain treatments with patients, family members, other physicians and any other healthcare providers
  • Coordinating the patient’s care with all other providers
  • Supporting the emotional well-being of patients and family members
  • Providing a safe and comforting space for patients undergoing cancer treatments
  • Collaboration to work well with other care providers and staff
  • 24/7 private cell phone number of Nurse, given to patient to access if they have any questions and/or concerns
  • Adhering to all healthcare regulations, protocols, and safety standards to uphold quality care and patient well-being.
  • Upholding ethical standards and always maintaining patient confidentiality.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to build strong relationships with patients, family members and other healthcare providers
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Willingness to advocate for patients

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must complete an accredited LVN/LPN, Associate RN or Bachelor of science and nursing program
  • License up to date
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Oncology Certified Nurse Certified (OCN Certification)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Infusion Therapy

Supervision Responsibilities:

  • None

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally required to sit
  • Frequently required to talk and stand
  • Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific frequently vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, Color vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception , and Ability to adjust focus
