MWH is Hiring a Contracts Manager Near Austin, TX

MWH Constructors, Inc. (MWH), a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is seeking qualified candidates for a Contracts Manager position to support preconstruction and construction efforts on critical water, wastewater, and advanced water treatment plant projects in Austin, TX.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the preconstruction team, project team, legal team, and subcontractors to lead the review of scopes for accuracy of quotes, prepare contracts, issue, negotiations, and execution of subcontract and purchase order agreements.
  • Management and tracking of contract routing from issuance to execution.
  • Manage procurement logs during the buyout phase of all projects including analysis of competing proposals.
  • Manage and track all subcontract and purchase order compliance including, insurance certificates, bonds, and site-specific safety manuals required of subcontractors prior to beginning onsite work.
  • Understand contract law and local rules and regulations and provide or coordinate subject matter expertise as required.
  • Understand the contractual requirements of project documents for both Prime Contract and subcontract administration.
  • Review project specifications and ensures contractor compliance, as well as ensures compliance with government regulations, statutes, and conformance with the company’s policies and practices.
  • Request and manage MWH Constructors bond and insurance requirements with the prime contract.
  • Provide guidance and answer questions related to insurance and bond requirements, subcontracts, purchase orders, and vendor agreements.
  • Coordinate with legal and risk team to advise project management on contractual risk and provide recommendations to mitigate those risks.
  • Provide project controls and risk management support to the project team with regard to the administration and disposition of contracts.
  • Develop, with legal and operations support contract risk summaries, participate in risk reviews, and provide claims support to legal and project teams, as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain claims management systems for the project.
  • Coordinate legal review and governance in accordance with project and JV partner business requirements.
  • Attend project meetings as needed or required.
  • Prepare written correspondence to program participants.
  • Coordinate dispute resolution processes including external legal participation in accordance with project, partner, and business requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to the wider project team on good contracts management practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in legal studies, business administration, engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training.
  • Minimum 5 years’ contract management and procurement experience on construction projects, including water infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of subcontracting and supplier agreements, knowledge of insurance and bond requirements, term resolution negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers, as well as suppling prime contracting support.
  • Knowledge of alternative delivery methods, including CMAR, DB, and Hard Bid project delivery methods.
  • Familiar with all terms and requirements of construction and related agreements.
  • Experience with interpretation of construction contracts regarding entitlement and quantum.
  • Familiarity with project reporting and creation of monthly construction reports.
  • Ability to use and interpret contract documents, drawings, schedule, and quality control plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Understanding of document management systems, cost accounting systems, construction cost estimates, and project schedules.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience working on water/wastewater or other complex public works or large industrial construction projects.
  • Experience in execution of construction contracts, compliance with terms, including insurance compliance.
