Under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Manager, the Content Creator will play a crucial role in bringing the city's communication strategies to life. The Content Creator will focus on developing and implementing creative communication content through various mediums, including web, print, text, and digital platforms. Content creation will be spread across all departments from the Farmers Market, Parks & Rec, Highway, Police and Fire, City Commission and all departments offering a wide variety of design work. This person filling this position will thrive if they have a passion for the City of Muskegon and an optimistic outlook on fun challenges.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. 3 years required, 5-10 years preferred, of technical experience in graphic design, web development, videography, social media management, or similar skills.
2. Bachelor, associates, or technical degree in arts, digital art/design, illustration, videography, or a similar field preferred.
3. 5 years of experience in WordPress, Adobe Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, and major Social Media platforms.
4. State of Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting with a controlled climate where they sit and work on a computer, communicate by telephone, email or in person, and move around the office to travel to other locations. The employee may occasionally need to lift and/or move items of light weight. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a City appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for City employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the City system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for up to one year unless exhausted or extended.
