Instructional Designer

The Musco Human Resources Team is currently seeking an Instructional Designer to work from our Oskaloosa office. With a focus on delivering impactful results, the Instructional Designer will work with subject matter experts in assessing, creating, developing, and optimizing learning and development solutions for team members worldwide. Using expertise in how people learn, design, and collaboration skills, the Instructional Designer creates learning experiences that will elevate entry, intermediate, and advanced team members across the world. What you will do as an Instructional Designer:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to assess performance and develop formal and informal learning solutions and materials for Musco team members, customers, and specifiers.
  • Utilize best practices in adult learning methodology and cognitive science.
  • Apply training techniques and strategies to ensure application on the job and information is retained
  • Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of existing training materials
  • Create and test supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, job aids, role plays, games etc.)
  • Maintain and use a comprehensive toolbox of assessment tools and metrics to measure results of training solutions.
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders
  • Engage in continuous personal and professional development, applying the most relevant and useful learning to instructional design projects
  • Conduct research as needed (instructional research, vendors, etc.)
  • May act as facilitator to deliver training solutions.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Communications, Human Resources, Adult Learning, or other related field; MA degree in instructional design, educational technology or similar preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in learning and development, technical writing and/or graphic arts; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Knowledge in Course Development Software, Learning Management Systems and visual design a plus but not required
  • APTD or CPLP certification preferred
  • Demonstrate a passion and ability for writing and content development excellence
  • Understanding of learning theories and instructional design models
  • Ability to develop new, quality training presentations and ideas
  • Effectively manage projects from start to finish, delivering results
  • Provide informative professional assistance when working with the public/customers and co-workers and maintain positive interpersonal relationships which encourage openness
  • Produce accurate, professional, and error-free documents in a timely manner
  • Respond to continually changing priorities to meet customer and team demands
  • Creatively compose information in a manner which engages learner participation and thought
  • Take complex technical information or topics and break them down for the learners and effectively communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Work independently and exercise good judgement to meet the needs of key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the training department.
