The specialty coordinator provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the proficient level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. Additional Job Description

Assist with coordination of Stroke Program regulatory/certification activities-15%

-Maintain current knowledge of requirements related to the appropriate regulatory bodies in relation to stroke (Joint Commission, American Heart Association)
-Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to prioritize resources and strategize to create change from regulatory findings.
-Manage and oversee process improvement projects based on the Neuroscience ICCE strategic plan, current stroke guidelines and best practice, Joint Commission measures, standards and evidence of standards compliance, and American Heart Association measures and best practice.
-Implement PDSA and IMPROVE process improvement methods

Efficiently assumes leadership role-10%

Facilitates optimal data management, distribution, benchmarking and reporting for the stroke program-35%

-Participates, maintains and acts as an expert resource for stroke program regulatory and certification bodies: Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Certification, American Heart Association Get With the Guidelines: Target Stroke and Achievement measures, and American Heart Association "Guidelines for the Early Management of Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke".
-Manages, maintains, and ensures quality of monthly Brain Attack Team Report, monthly Mechanical Thrombectomy report, and quarterly complications
-Manages, maintains, and ensures quality of Stroke Program Report Dashboard, BAT Summary, Key Performance Indicators, Annual MUSC Stroke Program Goals, Time Sensitive Indicators, and Nursing Unit scorecards
-Case Summary formulation and dissemination of select interventional stroke cases
-Inter-rate reliability of stroke chart abstraction per Joint Commission auditing standards
-Assists with stroke chart abstraction and data in partnership with the Stroke Program Data Analyst as needed.
-Maintains and manages the Stroke Program Intranet Website

Stroke Subject Matter Expert for MUHA Enterprise and Community: 40%

-Provides & maintains evidenced based expertise in acute stroke assessment, diagnostic tools, treatment and management guidelines to maximize clinical outcomes.
-Supports bedside care team members as a stroke subject matter expert in best practice, MUSC pathways/protocols/policy, regulatory and CSC compliance, documentation requirements, patient/family education, collecting and tracking data, and reporting clinical outcomes.
-Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team
-Provides comprehensive (stroke patho, individualized risk factors, etc) inpatient education, support, and resource information to family members or caregiver of stroke patients.
-Plans and participates in at least 2 stroke community education events annually
-Facilitates, plans and teaches the MUSC Charleston Brain Attack Team class and Brain Attack Team Recertification for care team members.
-Rounds on nursing units and attends at least 4 monthly Brain Attack Team alerts to act as a resource and promote high-quality, evidence-based, efficient stroke care.
-Supports and celebrates care team members by managing the quarterly Stroke Hero Award
