Must be enrolled as a current MUSC College of Nursing student, and must have completed the required number of hours for the Medical-Surgical 2 Nursing Course at the College of Nursing. Upon completing the required number of shifts as a Nurse Extern while still enrolled as a College of Nursing student, the Nurse Extern will interview for a Graduate Nurse/RN I position upon graduation from MUSC College of Nursing and passing the NCLEX examination. The Nurse Extern must possess the ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to make accurate physical observation of patients. Applicant must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Basic computer skills required. Position may require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends with their designated Nurse Preceptor. Employees must successfully pass the on-line course modules, and skills validation for basic skills. Passing requires achieving an 80% passing rate on each test in two attempts or will result in separation from employment. Trainees are expected to have reliable attendance, are responsible for maintaining their BLS and any other annual competencies. Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider required.
