Salary:

Murphy Bros, a 40-year-old family operated design/build firm serving the Twin Cities area, has an immediate opening for a Design Manager. Our proprietary four step process has helped us grow to become the area's most trusted full-service residential remodeling company. 

As the Design Manager, you will provide creative leadership and direction to the design team and manage the Company’s design process. This role is also responsible for delivering drafting and design services to our clients.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership, Management, and Accountability
    1. Guide and influence others towards the Company’s vision and goals
    2. Plan, organize, coordinate, and control resources and activities within your department, overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, allocating resources, and achieving objectives
    3. Hold employees accountable for meeting expectations and be transparent in reporting results
    4. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members
  2. Design Oversight
    1. Review projects to ensure company design standards are met
    2. Elevate overall company design output
    3. Educate others on the appropriate use of design standards, techniques, and elements
  3. Drafting
    1. Collaborate with others to understand the design concepts and requirements of each project
    2. Prepare architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details, using computer-aided design (CAD) software
    3. Conduct job-site measures to capture accurate dimensions to create as-built drawings
    4. Ensure adherence to building codes, regulations, and zoning requirements
    5. CAD system management
  4. Project Design
    1. Review information gathered from the sales team and help to create comprehensive scopes of work for client projects
    2. Help to select materials, fixtures, finishes, and furniture to meet project objectives, client preferences, and budgetary requirements
    3. Utilize Chief Architect (CAD) to create accurate plans and representations of projects
  5. Client Assistance
    1. Prepare presentation materials to effectively communicate design concepts and participate in client meetings
    2. Communicate regularly with clients to ensure projects are moving forward at the appropriate pace
    3. Conduct research and stay updated on latest design trends, materials, and finishes to ensure clients receive innovative and relevant design solutions
  6. Administrative Tasks
    1. Assist in the creation and management of detailed project budgets
    2. Procure bids and project specifications from trade partners and vendors
    3. Upload and manage documents in the construction management software
    4. Review and approve invoices
    5. Assist with home show and client events

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and formal education in architecture, drafting, and/or trade certifications required (NARI, NKBA, AIA, or other relevant design and/or drafting certifications)
  • 10 years of experience in architecture, drafting, and design, preferably in residential remodeling
  • Ability to guide, instruct, and motivate others
  • Proficient in drafting software
  • Strong understanding of design principles, space planning, and construction documents
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other trades and construction professionals
