LOCATION: Spenard Community Recreation Center: 2020 West 48th Avenue
This is a seasonal, full-time position which has an anticipated start date of May 13, 2024 and ending approximately and date of August 25, 2024.
Under supervision, the Recreation Specialist II position leads entry-level staff that is responsible for delivering recreation and youth employment activities and events, monitoring participant behavior and cleaning facilities. Employees in the classification work with independence and initiative within established policies and procedures to perform at lead staff level and are responsible for providing safe recreational and learning environments. This position is distinguished from that of Recreation Leader I by the degree of accountability of the work and greater latitude in exercise of independent judgment concerning assigned duties. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Must possess the following at time of hire:
Be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
Preference will be given to returning Seasonal Employees who are eligible for Recall as per AMEA 3.14.8, and to any current Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. Recalled and AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
If selected for hire, the applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, kneeling, repetitive motion of hands/fingers; grasping with hand, gripping; lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and working in or being exposed to inclement weather.

Satisfactory Municipality of Anchorage Background Check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education and dates of employment.
Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160), (AS 12.62.400) and AMC 16.55.250. Applicants will be required to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $48.25 (State of Alaska fee) plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. In some cases the processing fee may be reimbursed.
Current copy of the applicant's Pediatric and Adult First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications by the time of hire. (Must be an instructor led class)
Following hire, candidates must complete mandatory orientation and training for continued employment (a minimum of 24 hours required).
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one (1) year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.
