Municipality of Anchorage is Hiring an Equipment service technician Near Anchorage, AK

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-T), Local 1547 and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

DEPARTMENT : Maintenance & Operations

HOURS OF WORK : 4-10s; Tuesday - Friday; 7 : 00am- 5 : 30pm

LOCATION : 5801 Northwood Drive

Services and maintains a variety of vehicles and equipment; activities include, but are not limited to : oil changes, fluid level checks, lubrication of moving parts, checking batteries, etc.

Assists mechanics in the repair and maintenance of a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, and other pieces of equipment.

Cleans and maintains shop work areas, including removal of snow, and debris. Properly disposes of discarded oil, and other servicing related materials.

Duties will include dismounting, repairing, mounting, balancing, and removing / replacing of tires at various locations.

Common computer skills required. The incumbent will maintain a harmonious work environment. The incumbent will also assist in shop cleanup, moving vehicles to / from the shop.

This position will utilize the equipment maintenance management software to document work performed. Will be required to possess hand tools common to the trade.

Perform other required duties as assigned.Education

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and one (1) year of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

License

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, without airbrake restriction, and with a satisfactory driving record at the time of hire.

Applicants with a restrictions of "N - No Class A and B Passenger Vehicle" and / or "L - Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible.)

  • If you do not currently possess a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B , you must :
  • At the time of application, possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license.
  • At the time of hire, possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license and State of Alaska Commercial Lerner's Permit (CLP).
  • Within one hundred twenty (120) days of hire, obtain a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, without restrictions.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check.

A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his / her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran.

The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.

The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.

The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
